Hey guys!! I was sitting around work this evening pack and repacking and trying to figure out how to set my Alice pack up and had a few little Ideas. to conserve space and whatnot.
1st I had picked up one of those waterproof match containers with matches in it a few days ago and I got to thinking how can I make this a little more effective? This is what I came up with:

I have fire with matches 1/2 of the original strike pad, and some steel wool for a tender source, misc pan fish hooks with some slip sinkers. I took a bobbin for a sewing machine and filled it with 8lb test fishing line ( I have no Idea how much is on there but should be plenty for its purpose) and taped the end with gorilla glue. Also the bobbin has a hole next to the middle that is perfect to slide the line threw so you can hold it to get started. The bobbin fits perfectly in the bottom of the canister. I then add the Matches and strike pad facing outward and use the bag that the strike pad comes in to put in the hooks and sinkers and slide it down into the canister next to the matches. I finished it off with some steel wool balled up to take up excess space.. and there ya go..
2nd Being a paramedic and going to the er alot I have access to the rooms that have the cool stuff in them so I picked up a NEW UNOPENED lol urine specimen container and came up with this little fire kit:

I placed some shavings from pine tree fat wood thanks to (bsmith_shoot) in the main bottom, then place in a piece of steel wool. then place some matches with the strike pad facing away from them of course, then layer the top with a few 4x4 cotton bandages and your ready to go.. I may add a small Bic to this set up but for a 1st round I didnt think it was too shabby..
Here are both of them together with the BK11...

I know this is not knife related per say and I am sorry for that but I thought you all might enjoy..
