Allyse and i went in search of a gar over 5 foot for her to catch, we ended up hooking a almost 7 foot monster, Allyse helped me fight the gar the majority of the fight. we filmed and photographed it then released it to grow and reproduce since we push conservation of these fish.

What a beast of a fish! They have teeth too. River Monsters did an episode on the Alligator Gar. Love that show actually. I have probably watched every episode two or three times.

That's a great video and it looks like you guys had a great time. Thanks for posting. I have never brought one in that big (not even close). I have seen the big ones a few times, just never got them to bite. Glad you released him so he can be someone else's big fish tale someday too.

Thanks for releasing the gar. There aren't that many of the really big ones around and they are truly an irreplaceable resource.

Did y'all pull em out of the Trinity River? That's what it looks like to me. Good Gar water but there's also big catfish and actual gators...Be careful!

I've caught some big gars , I thought , until I saw these.

Gars spawn in the shallow ripples of a small river here. They get in a great big ball and make a lot of commotion. Its a sight to see .

They truly are Dinosaurs. My boys and I were on a T-Rex dig and found Gar "scales" in the bone bed.

Man those things are monsters ! I remember thinking about fishing for Gar in the Eutrophic lakes in some parts of southern Ontario, as a kid. I never did fish for them. I got into the big Browns and Rainbows that came up from Lake Ontario.
