Got my new Pacific Salt in the mail yesterday. Stripped the clip and took a picture of it alongside my Catcherman.

I really like the Pacific Salt. Solid lockup. Nice and lightweight for clipping to shorts or a fishing vest. After one pass on the Sharpmaker, it is making hairs jump. Good size for a fishing knife, though I'm thinking I may have to also pick up the Tasman and the Salt I at some point. :D

Two   on this one.

Maybe someone here can answer this question. Has Spyderco ever made any motions regarding a plain-edged fillet knife? As much as I like the little Catcherman, I think it would be a far better knife in a plain configuration. Put a Ti clip on it, and it would be darn near perfect.

Was poking around to see if I could find anything on a plain-edged Catcherman, and I noticed that Cliff mentions the same thing...
The only point of contention are the serrations, while they do come in handy cutting through the thicker and tougher tissues, as well as steaking the thicker fish, some purists would prefer a full plain edge on a fillet blade, as the serrations can be cumbersome if the fillet is wider than the plain edge section of the blade. http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sstamp/knives/catcherman.html

Nice score! Gotta love the color too.
Did you sharpen it at 30 degrees, or at 40 degrees?
Or both? (i.e. 30 back bevel, 40 cutting edge)

yeah , and make a catcherman with the same h1 steel as used in the salt knives, i`m not the first one with this idea/opinion , its just one i happen to agree with.

A filet knife requires flexible steel, I don't think H1 would be a good choice for the cacherman.

Hey, Guyon, we have a similar pair of fishing knives!

I've got a Spyderco Salt 1 (PE) for the miniscule chores, and since I'm going to a college with great saltwater fishing nearby, I was starting to search for a Catcherman. Then I found this Buck in my dad's dresser, and he said I could have it.

It is dull as all get out, so I'm working on that. I reprofiled it to a 30 degree edge on the Gatco, and I've got a Sharpmaker coming in the mail to put that final touch on it. It's a Buck 539V, in case you want to search for one (I couldn't find much on it). Good luck in your search for a PE fillet knife!
