Yeah, there's an old fishing knife thread back in the archives, but I just took possession of this beauty and wanted to reboot the topic.
This one is a Case 1977 fishing knife with the hook sharpener. Oldie but a goodie, and I plan to put it to use.

Let's see those fishing knives if you've got 'em.
As I was searching for this one, I saw a lot interesting variations on the 'bay.

one of these is on my list although I'm hesitant about a folder with lots of nooks and crannies that will get all gooped up with fish goop.

BRL- that's what your hand is for. :D Your hand will more or less cover up all of those nooks and crannies. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My dad and I used a knife of this general pattern (but different brand) for ~20 years or so, when fishing for trout in NM & CO. These don't get as 'gooped up' as you might think, IF you go about it right. We were in the habit of cleaning our fish streamside/lakeside, and after making a cut or two, we'd just swish the knife around in the water a bit. And with trout at least, if you know how & where to cut, there's very little mess involved. Not much blood at all, and it's fairly easy to avoid piercing the digestive tract organs, which would make the most mess, if done improperly. The internal organs are 'scooped out' with the thumb, running the thumbnail along the backside of the spine (this is a good time to 'swish' the hands around in the water, too ;)).

As mentioned, most of the messy stuff stays confined to the blade end anyway. And with a stainless knife especially, giving the whole thing a bath in dish soap & hot water is a breeze. Same as any ol' kitchen knife.

Heres an Imperial with a Dart Research advertisement.

Yeah Im a copycat.

(and there's more...this is an old pic) :)

Somehow reminds me of the Folies Bergere with a bunch of gals doing the can-can.
Sigh, I must need to get out more.

We better sober Frank up!
Various types, including one with a gaff!
