Even though I only have a 30 dollar rod, my fishing/boating knife collection is almost ready to go. This sounds really corny, only from the fact that I have not had the chance to go boating too many times, and that I don't really need five knives to go fishing near home.

I have

Spyderco Pacific Salt yellow handle serrated edge for general EDC on boat

Buck 315 Yachtsman with bolsters for general EDC on boat (with marlinspike, but how many times am I going to have to cut rope with the sheepsfoot blade?)

old British Navy marlinspike, Spencer brand, same comment as above

Mora utility knife, IMHO this is the only one I would need for fishing and on the boat, but I have an addiction to knives like everyone else here

two Rapala filet knives, really use the small one or bait, but the Mora serves that purpose

Finally I'm looking to get a Benchmade River Rescue, but do I need it? Do I need all of this? The Rapalas can be given away, the Mora I'm definitely going to keep, but I can't bear to part with the Pac Salt, Spencer or Buck.

Yes, you need all those knives!

For Pete's sake, you're a knifenut, you actually need more knives.

Your fishing/boating selection isn't complete without a Myerchin riggers knife and you NEED some kind of big chopper to cut thick lines in a hurry, you remember what happened to the guys in Jaws don't you?

Beyond a cheap (well, as expensive as you want to make it, I suppose) knife for cut bait, a fillet knife, and an EDC, the rest is just overkill.

Of course, I now own the following fillet knives, so I cannot talk:
Rapala (Martini) 7"
Rapala (Martini) 9" (rubber handled)
Gerber Gator 8"
Dexter Russell 8"
Schrade 167UH

And I'm thinking of getting a Victorinox for comparison's sake. Someone stop me!

Even though I don't live near the coast anymore, I've thought about picking up a Salt for cut bait duties. A Combo Edge would be good IMO. Front part for slicing, back serrations for cutting through bone. But AFAIK, they only come in plain or serrated, right?

silenthunterstudios, how do you like your Salt?

I totally forgot that I own a Spyderco Catcherman. So make that six, going on seven, fillet knives for me.

EDIT: Okay, this thread got me into an online search for Victorinox/Forschner fillet knives. They're pretty widely available, on eBay as well as through a number of online vendors. One thing though--they don't come with a sheath.

Found this outfit that makes sheaths for these knives and sells knife/sheath combos at a reasonable price. Am thinking of ordering one.

What the he** kind of a question was that? ;) As already mentioned - you need MORE knives! Heck, you don't even have a fishing knife yet from Murray St. Amour, Darren Chard, George Tichbourne, Steve Linklater, Ron Post, Jim Downie, or Bud Weston! Slacker! ;) ;) ;)

(in my best Gollum voice with my hands over my ears) "Not listening, not listening..."

Okay, I need a big chopper. My Becker Crewman should fit that bill. Now I need custom boat knives. Oh, I think my wallet just ran away!

If your fishin is like my fishin, you need something to play with until you catch the fish that you are likely not to. Have you got a sharpening stone in the list there? Take all your knives and do a sharpening session.

Made in Finland by Iisakki Jarvepaa.
4" SS blade, horn and wood handle.
They make a 6" version too.

Here are my 'old soldiers' that have been out on the water a bunch

I know this is an old thresd, but the single hook, red & white daredevil is totally classic. It will never go out of style. I only hope to own a couple of pieces in that stratospheric category in my lifetime...
