So, I hadn't seen my old friend and co-worker Wayne in a few months , so we took off this morning in the hours before dawn to get some bait time in before it got too damm hot. Maryland's been having this heat wave, with temps either in or bordering the 100 degree mark.

It's nice to see that some things never change. Wayne is still using his little two blade pen, aBuck companion. It's his bait knife, gutting knife, and whatever knife. I think he's been carrying that knife for about 20 years now, and he's devoted to it. It's 'his' knife.

What two blade pens do some of you use and cherish?

I'm very keen on the pattern due to the single spring slimness:thumbup:

As your post shows, a lowly Pen can handle many rough but useful tasks.

CASE Yellow cv sees a lot of time, the Böker I have is slightly smaller in stainless with carbon backspring (An odd combo in my view)but has very nice Honeycomb Bone scales. The CASE is better due to being that bit bigger. Got an oldish Hoffritz sabre ground carbon, bone scales a bit rough now but it's a sharp old customer with sunk joints making it very good in the trouser. CASE has semi sunk joints too and this is an appeal. For office work and outdoor tasks the Pen can be a real eye-opener, don't really need a lot more.

i won a schrade peanut branded by "skoal" on the bay. it came during a time i was out of work after 17 years with the same company. you cant believe how good it made me feel recieving a green delrin handled knive during that bad time in my life. that knife is going with me to my grave. it even has a small scalloped cut out to help with accessing the smaller blade. and out of over 150 knives shes the one thats going with me. my 10yo daughter understands this and thats great.

I've always liked the pen knife pattern. It seems like it's the one I saw most as a kid in the 70s. I often carry a small Buck pen knife. The funny thing is that I keep the long blade as sharp as possible and never sharpen the small one. The small blade is my "do everything" poker/scraper/picker blade...just the way I everyone do it.

Is your friends Buck the one with the small coping blade?

Hi jackknife -

I cherish this one - it was my step-fathers. I bought it for him and he carried it until he passed away.

Jackknife, I am pretty sure that i bought my Buck 309, the summer of 1977. I always carry it, no matter what else is in my pockets. I have gone for as much as 2 years, thinking it was all i needed. Most of the time i was right. It is small, but not too small. It is light enough that it pretty much gets forgotten. Holds an edge well and is easy to keep sharp, with a crock stick. It is beautiful, to my eye. Silver on black frame, swedged clip blade with a long pull. It never rusts, even when i go swimming (fits perfect in the little change pocket of my swim suit).
I have several times, tested other knives as a replacement (something new, for a change). I have never found anything that comes close. A lot of knives have kept it company. Sometimes i carry 2 or 3 knives. Nothing has ever replaced it. I even bought an "as new replacement", in case we ever get separated.

Keep up the stories and ideas for threads. Henry44

mqqn- That's a beautifull little pen knife!:thumbup::thumbup:
Your's or from a family memer, it looks very vintage?

Henry44- I've known three people who carried 309 as thier edc, and they were totally loyal to it. Loyal to the point that when Wayne's little knife got bumped off the railing at a crabbing pier, he dived into the drink after it. Took a couple of tries but he got it back. Must be a great knife to inspire that kind of loyalty.

Hi jacknife -

I bought that for my late step-father around 1992, it is the "Pocketworn" scale finish, which is buffed or sanded to look like it was in your pocket for years.

I really like that finish, but rarely see them anymore.

I carry this one occasionally - to commemorate my step-dad's birthday etc.

He really loved this knife - he was a knife guy, and he loved it because I gave it to him, and also because he loved knives in general.

Seeing the knife makes me miss Harry.
