Fishing has been great this year. Here's a few mackerel I picked up today. Had the trusty Pacific Salt with me as usual. :). I recently completed my salt collection and though there isn't a bad design in the bunch, this is still the one I always reach for when it's time to paddle out. Always have it at the cleaning table too and that serrated edge is a great tool to have there. What an awesome knife!

I'm sure that you would need to sharpen it at some time. What's the best way to sharpen the serrations?

Cool knife. I gotta get one.

Hi Sirupatespecial, the serrations sharpen up super easy with the sharpmaker. I avoided serrated edge knives for years because I thought they would be a pain to sharpen. If only I had known! With the SM you just use the corners and sharpen them pretty much like you would a plain edge. I just give mine a 10-20 second touchup after each trip and they stay razor sharp. You're missing out if you don't own any serrated H1!

That's it. I've had it! I give up! Yea, I'm finally gonna pull the trigger and buy a serrated H1 Pacific Salt asap. I've wanted one for awhile but there we're other knives I wanted more but my desire for a SE Pacific Salt just kept growing and growing thinking about that excellent work hardened steel with those razor sharp serrations as hard as ZDP-189 :) This will be my next purchase! Thank you Surfing Gringo, you have been a great inspiration to me to get a Salt but more importantly your outstanding threads have motivated me to get out fishing more! Thanks

Right on bro. I think you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. It's by far my favorite user spydie! If you do just a tiny bit or maintenance and keep those serrations razor sharp you will be amazed by how this blade cuts. I was slicing up some of the filets in the kitchen today and it was almost scary how effortlessly this knife glided through them. Careful. ;)

Yep, I think I need to be off ordering one of those also. Thanks for all your photos, reviews, and "in-use" threads Surfinggringo. I always find them useful, entertaining, and inspirational. Mike.

Surfingringo, do you find that the serrated edge makes a somewhat coarser cut? I have one serrated Salt 1 and the rest of my Spydercos are FFG PE blades. I do have a special feeling about that Salt, though. It's just so pleasingly minimalist and simple. By the way, you got me thinking about the South Fork with your recent post about them, and I broke down and bought one (I should say re-bought since I had one and foolishly sold it). I plan to butcher about 30 chickens next week--figured it would be a good way to break it in.

This.
And a strop.
I find stropping the back side of the serrations keeps it razor sharp between Sharpmaker sessions. It's crazy how sharp a SE blade gets on a strop.

Is that one of those 'yaks that you paddle? I started yakfishing over 15 years ago, and they've come a long way. My best fish was a 48" Striper and a few Albies (well, other than a few huge cownosed rays, and a 7' thresher). Are those Jack, King, or Spanish macks?
I've also been on the fence about serrated H1 blades. Maybe I'll give one a go.

I would love to see a vid of that. I imagine what you are saying, but to see it done is worth 1000 words. Would love a SE knife, but sharpening is the reason I haven't gotten one.

Sierra Mackerel...type of Spanish. Amazing table fare!

I can relate, but you have to get over that idea. There's nothing to it with the sharpmaker. Seriously.

Btw, bet that thresher was fun! :) They are good eating aren't they?

Surfingringo, let's hear the list! What salt models do you have that completed your set?

Atlantic Salt, se dragonfly and HB ladybug were recent additions. The atlantic salt is great...love the handle on that one. The dragonfly was to replace one that I gave to a friend to keep on his jetski a few months ago. The little HB Ladybug really deserves it's own thread. I haven't used it a ton but it is a pretty amazing little cutting machine for what is essentially a keychain knife.

Here's a pic of the atlantic salt with a little blade mod. I like em pointy. :)

Yeah, it was. Took me about 40 minutes to tire it out, then I brained it with a hammer, tied it off, and paddled for shore. We blackened steaks within the hour and grilled them over coals with some fresh aioli, sweet corn on the cob grilled in the husk with seasoned butter, and a lot of beer. I slept well that night.
We iced the shark steaks and divided them between the group. There's a lot of meat on a critter that size. Some of the others brought in all kinds of fish, so we really ate all weekend. Lots of flatfish, croaker, weakfish and others. Really a good time.

Thanks for the pics. I'm landlocked now, but used to yak fish in Hawaii. Had some decent hook ups with Mahi and some big ass Ulua, or Jacks I think they call them. I can't see yaking for bass here in Texas after blue water fishing back home, but fishing is fishing so I might try it. Perfect knife by the way!
