Here is the Fisk that I picked up at the New York show. I have been looking for one for a bit and I liked the shape, size and material used in this one. Thanks to Bob Neal, and Jose for going out of his way. The blade is slightly over 9 inches. at the spine right around 5/16 thick wolfs tooth pattern damascus and a stag mortise stlye handle. I like my fighters/bowie's thicker than 1/4 and this knife fit the bill. When I get a stud made up I will send it to Paul long for one of his superlative sheath's. Sorry Phil for the bad pics could not get the light to really show off this blade. Thanks for looking

I'm not a good photographer either but maybe a little too much light? You got the wolf's tooth pattern to pop though. Along with Joe's hawks and one of the Japanese maker's san mai blades it was one of the knives to make an impression during my quick circuit through the show on Friday. Nice score, glad I was able to help.

I was lucky enough to handle this knife several times, not as lucky as Joe is to own it.

Joe, there's nothing wrong with the photos that a little Color Correction couldn't fix.
It almost looks like you have the White Balance of your camera set for Tungsten lights. I played with the color a little bit below.
You were worrying about making the Damascus pattern show, and you captured it beautifully.

I got to handle it as well.
Way better in person, than in any photo.
That Fisk fella makes a nice knife.

Good luck with it Joe :D

That kind of steel is iridescent. No way can a photograph capture the shimmer. It's a only snapshot of a great movie.

Congrats on your re-decision.

Coop

Coop is a professional photographer, JParanee is not.......instead of just saying "nice knife", and MAYBE PM'ing some helpful pointers...SOME of you publicly harsh on his photo's.

Which is why I don't post photos....MORE than the fact that I am a sucky photographer...you ingrates simply don't deserve 'em.

(This is written half in jest....but you get my point.....before you go fluffin' up yer chesties;))

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I dunno that close up shot of the guard area is positively 3D...Nice!

Costs about $100.00 a pop, which is what got laid out for my Farr stag hunter(Dan paid for it), the Dean with Long sheath, the Steven Rapp subhilt with Rowe Sheath and the Maragni O-Tanto...that's enough for this decade....I'll get some more done after 2010.:D

GREAT get, JParanee....IF I had seen that one first, and just not come off a heck of a start to the year...OH YES...it would be mine!:)

Thanks guys the knife definately deserve's better pics than mine . Steven I know you are only kidding around but to be fair I asked Phil for pointers and invited comments. I would like to improve in anything I do. I am not a forum person this is my first and I am enjoying learning from all of you. When I took these pics the light was not the way I would have hoped for. When I get a sheath done I will try again. Steven I do have a question for you or anyone else is Fisk the only one that does a Wolf's Tooth pattern or have you seen it one other makers blade's. Phil my e mail is JParanee@aol.com and my # is 610 657 9515 in case ya ever need to get in touch. Again thanks to all for the comments

I'll be honest, J., I don't know.....there are patterns like the Feather pattern that is unique to Dean/Dunn, or the mosaic Leaf that Christensen does, there are patterns that some 'smiths do better than anyone else, like Turkish Twist by Rados...and then there is the melange of combinations available to, and practice by almost anyone who can....not sure where the Wolf's Tooth falls in there.

I imagine Mr. Jerry would know, and I would call him, but it is 12:42 am in AR, and he might object to the intrusion on his sleep. I'll ask him first thing in the am, or Kevin might pop in here before that!:D

Thanks Steven I sent Mr. Fisk an e mail to see if I could buy a small Piece of like damascus to have turned down for a stud. have not heard back yet I told him that if it was a bother not to worry about it I would source something else. Again thanks to all

In order to work for your needs, it might have to be specially made....I think for what you want to do with it(the carving and fluting) straight grain might just be the way to go...but, obviously, you have a much better idea what you want to do with this one than I.

Steven I think you are right I was not to concerned with the pattern just podering if a damascus stud or a blued and just the high spots polished like on the lamey i posted would go better. You guy's tell me. If it was damascus I would certainly like to get it from the man how made the knife. If not possible blued is the way to go. here is stud matt lamey finished.

Congrats, nice piece.
As STeven said, it's hard to find any damascus patterns that's exclusive to a single maker. One maker will stumble on to it, perfect it, then other's will figure it out and start using it. I had a Jerry Lairston Bowie with a very nice wolftooth pattern. Other's have used it with varying degree of success too.
Jerry perfected the wolftooth and I would say it's his most popular pattern. He has several variations of it, such as the gambler set below which is wolftooth with "Xs" cut above.

Generally you can tell Jerry's pattern by his cool  names, such as dogstar, oden's eye, tears of the wounded to name a few.
There's some that are one of a kind such a as "reptile scale" that he was experimenting with below. You can go to my photo site to see many of his patterns.
Jerry's on a hog hunting trip, so you will probably hear back from him in a couple days. Don't know, after that picture of him on the Arkansas show thread he may just said he was going hunting. ;) :D

I got back from the hog hunt this morning but our emails are screwed up. I can surf etc but cannot recieve or send emails at this point. Red will get this worked out as soon as she can.
JP, will get with you as soon as that is working.
On the wolf tooth. I did it and worked it out. It was to cover an error on the first one. I had a hunter I was working on that was supposed to be ladder pattern but I forged it too thin like random pattern but I needed to cut some type of pattern, so I did a ladder pattern just on the edge then forged it down. It turned out what I thought was good and I had not seen one like that. I called it a dog tooth at the time, then I found out the vikings had one similar and called it a wolf tooth, the chinese did one like it called it a dragong tooth. My hertiage is viking so I went with the wolf tooth name of it.
That may be more than yall wanted to know but thought I would give background.

Any marketing guru would agree that wolf tooth is better than dog tooth.

(PS: One of those "in limbo" email is from me. Tell me if you can't recover it...)
