i understand that the fisk ovb with the desert iron wood handle has a tendency to crack, does the original bowie with the fiddle back maple have the same type of problem? hows the durability of these knives for a survival situation? thank you

I have the maple-handled version of the Southwest Bowie. Mine hasn't been through anything too traumatic, but it still looks like new. And I would trust that knife to hold up under serious adversity.
