I was thinking about getting a Gransfors Bruks axe and have been reading about how to sharpen them. I happened to find a very informative thread on a bushcraft type of forum.

Anyway, I decided on the Fiskars X15 instead which I believe are flat ground as opposed to convex.

With the convex edge I read that you are to push and roll the file around the bevel. Does a flat gound axe sharpen more like a knife? If so, what angle should I use?

This will be basically be an all purpose bushcraft axe.

Just sharpen it freehand and don't sweat it too much. A slight convex will develop naturally as a result of your slightly irregular strokes.

The x15 is Scandi ground. I sharpen mine like a mora knife...... Get use to sharpening it, the Scandi grind bites into wood like a 2lb knife, but the edge is so thin that you will eventually need to reprofile it. Mine took one chopping session to make the edge look like a mountain range. Use a file to sharpen and a stone of you want it razor sharp. Just keep the bevel flat and push.

No need to keep it that way. Broaden the edge angle a little and you're golden. The dulling and rolling is reduced significantly.
