Sorry if this has been asked before but since some of us can't have search functions, I have no choice but to ask it again.:(
I know that Fiskars and Gerber are basically the same when it comes to their hatchets. I have a Gerber hatchet and I am happy with it. The questions I have is;
1) Is there any difference in thermal elasticity in the handles between the two?
2) Is one brand more durable than the other?
As I said I do own a Gerber 14" but I am looking at getting another and I just want to get the better of the two if there is one.
Thank you in advance for any responses.;)

Mods. if this is in the wrong forum please move it for me. Thanks.

As far as im conserned they are the same, though the fiskars name is one I personally trust more than Gerber nowadays.

The general consensus is that they are identical except for the orange paint on the handle of the Fiskars and the fact that the Gerber comes with a nylon cover for the head. In fact, Fiskars has owned Gerber for a while now.

In the future you can search bladeforums with Google. Just enter the word or phrase that you want to search for followed by "site:bladeforums.com" So, typing "fiskars and gerber site:bladeforums.com" into google gets this:

http://www.google.com/search?q=fisk...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Searching this way tends to bring up lots of inactive threads since there is so much info in the archives, but that's no big deal if you're just looking for a bit of information.

Hey nice trick Salamander42 . Wish I knew about that before I upgraded :grumpy:. I still would have, but until December I had to look for everything the hard way. Back to the OP, I would say the Fiskars has the "name" of trust over the Gerber nowadays. I still want a Gerber hatchet, but that's because they are down the street at Academy for $30 or less.

I went with the Fiskars one, just so that I could have a hatchet that says "Made in Finland".

Now all I need to go with it, is a Finnish Nagant.

All the Gerber axes except the Gator stuff is made in Finland.
And they are all marked "Made in Finland."
The Fiskars orange painted stuff is about half the price of the equivalent Gerber.

Same molds, same blades, same handle material.:D

Guess what brand I own.;)

I wish I could remember who I originally picked that trick up from so I could give them proper credit. It was someone on bladeforums. Even when the search function was available to everyone it wasn't very useful. . . It always kind of locked up on searches for popular topics of discussion.

I'm still planning on upgrading my membership sometime fairly soon. I figure all of the information I've gotten from these forums is easily worth 25 bucks. Just gotta get the bills paid for this month and then I'll be going for gold! ;)

I like the Gator. Spare knife in the handle, pretty handy.
