I do almost no camping anymore. For the most part my blade collecting now is all about use on my property or just because I want it so I can look at it from time to time. I dont worry too much anymore about hows it gonna carry or whether itll fit great on a pack. For the most part it's all about can it make my life easier doing maintenance around the place. I started with a 9 and then got several. Love the 9 for all the reasons you all know from your own use. Then I got a Cincinnati 4 and almost stopped using the 9. Then the RBK came out so I got one from Dex. I finally got to spend some time with it and all I gotta say is yeah baby. This blade is awesome.
Side note a month or two ago some of you were going on about the Fiskars X27. My maul needs rehafting and I just havent gotten around to it so I bought the X27 and gave it a workout yesterday. Holy crap! One swing split. One swing split. Yet its lighter than a maul so it didnt wear my old and outta shape butt out as quickly.
After splitting some of the big pile I had to do I thought Id take the RBK and make some kindling. I was having so much fun with it I ended up making more kindling than I will use for a long while. It was so light in hand that short accurate flicks were easy. I was moving so quickly with it that at one point I thought I had better slow down, or at least count my fingers. I know it is capable of chopping the big stuff and batoning but since I had the Fiskars out I had the heavy stuff covered. For a little bit more fun I even tried to feather stick one of the pieces. Easy. Thanks Ethan for a great blade and addition to my growing collection.
Heres a pic of the two together. (and yes, I did overswing the x27 quite a bit at first.
