Fit and finish issues

I recently got a GEC EZ Open Jack EDC, and the bone isn't fit 100% perfectly. There's no gap between the bone and the bolster, but the liners and the bone aren't flush, and there is a bit of a rough edge where the liner sticks out a minute distance from the bone. What can I do to get rid of this? Should I just take some 1200 grit sandpaper all around the edges of the knife?

Also, let me rephrase the question a bit:

What grit sandpaper should I use, if not another method of abrasion, in order to have a somewhat mirror finish?

Hm, I've only had it for a week or two, and it seems it hasn't shrunken away from the bolster, but that may be the issue.

How do you suggest swelling the bone? I've already washed it a bit to get excess dye off, but I didn't notice an improvement afterwards (maybe 30 seconds soaking in hot water).

I soaked the knife in some really hot water (not quite boiling, but it made the knife far too hot to hold) for something like 10-15 minutes, and it helped a small amount. However, I don't think the bone has shrunk by a significant amount.

That brings me back to my original question: What grit wet 'n' dry do you suggest? What kind of finish does 1000 grit get you? Should I just get a small buffing wheel and some compound for use on a dremel/drill?

Here's what I'd do: Sand it down flush by hand with 220 grit wet or dry paper. Take it up to 400 and 800 or 1000. If you want a really polished edge you can buff it with that Dremel tool and compound but be careful not to mess it up.

Wow. I'm surprised.

I went to work with some 600 grit wet and dry with some mineral oil, maybe 10 minutes of sanding the spine. I cut a small strip and got the rounder pieces of the spine, washed it off, dried it off, and inspected my work. It looks very nice. It's a nice satin finish, nice and flush, and it looks and feels better than the factory finish in my opinion. For such a simple, fast process, the results are very nice.
