I recently bought a mini CQC-7 via the Emerson website that seemed "too tight" (I oiled it REAL well and it still was tight) so I loosened the pivot screw and now I can see clear spaces between the bushings and the liner?

Additionally, there is considerable blade "wobble" until the knife locks up, which locks up GREAT!

Since there's "wobble" the tip also scrapes the bottom liner when opening, I can see a clear "rub line" on it.

Is this normal? Should I tighten it down again?

I should also note that I've got a CQC-7 from 2000 that had/has none of these problems, it opens/closes like a champ and the blade is evenly spaced from both liners.

You should've loosened it a hair, and that's all. It seems you went too far. There shouldn't be any wobble or play. Should you tighten it down again?... Are you serious?

I should have also said that I had loosened it up to the point I did so that the blade was centered...when it's "tight" the blade is picometers from the liner...when it's "loose" the blade is dead center. Going to try the frame adjustment method I used on my Mili...let you know...

Things always take a wee while to settle in, just give it a week or so and i'm sure it will be all good.
The pivot will need tweeked a bit to find that sweet spot but as the washers polish them sleves off
the blade and liners that will change a small amount.

Congrats on the 7 as well. :)

Thanks again everyone, definitely starting to worry less about it...just hard since it's the new baby and my old 7 never acted up...

I had the exact same problem with my new Horseman. Drove me nuts to have a blade that would rub against the liner when I opened it. No amount of adjustments would fix it so I finally gave in and took it apart.

After a quick cleaning, wipedown and light lube, the blade is perfectly centered and buttery smooth with perfect tension on the pivot. It is my favorite EKI and one of my favorite knives overall!
