fitting a kydex sheath to SR Chopweiler

Hey guys. Just got a new Swamp Rat Chopweiler with a Spec Ops Navigator sheath. I saw some reviews on the spec ops 'combat master' sheaths that said they fit the Chopweiler well. The Navigator said it held the same dimensions as the combat master so I went with it because it was a bit cheaper. Turns out that the kydex insert doesn't fit the blade. I can only get the knife about half way in to the sheath/insert. I'd like to try and heat up the kydex and reform it. Any idea how much the kydex can/will expand? It seems it will need to loosen up quite a bit. Anyone have problems with fitting a chopweiler into spec ops sheath (navigator or combat master)? Any ideas on how to get this sheath to work would be greatly appreciated since I want to take the knife on a trip to AK in a couple of days and don't have time to return the sheath and get a different one (plus, the navigator is pretty cool).

kydex will return to its somewhat normal "flat" (sheet) state if you heat it back up.. your knife should fit if you heat it up a bit and try to work the knife in there a touch at a time, if you want to avoid completely re forming the kydex that is....

I recommend a heat gun.. go at it nice and slow..

Thanks! I don't have a heat gun (guess I could pick one up). I saw online that some people said you could use boiling water, oven, toaster oven, hair dryer. Do you think any of those would work?

Thanks! using a heat gun is what I have seen most people recommending online. I don't have one though and found a couple of places where people siad they had used one of the following: boiling water, oven, toaster oven, hair dryer...think any of these would work?

i dont recommend boiling water.. a toaster oven works great.. just watch it close.. it takes only about a minute to heat to a point that will be malleable enough for you to do the job. a hair dryer might not get the job done...

turn on the "toast" option, and let it heat up (glowing red elements) pop it in there and stand by.. wear some mechanics gloves or somethin.. lay a towel down on the counter, folded in half, and when the kydex comes out, sandwich the knife with the kydex and fold the towel over everything and press for a couple minutes.. it will cool fairly quickly!
