Fitting blades on the TI Militaries

How much work has to be done to throw a regular Military blade in one that has the TI lock/scale? I'm thinking you might have to remove a lot of material on the regular blades or something. Anybody have any input on this? I want to put an s110v blade on my fluted TI. If that can't work I'd have to get a knifeworks s90v one and mutilate it to get a blade that fits.

I think what you have to worry about is weather your versions are cqi Millies or not. The thing to look for is the stop pin. The older ones have a screw, where the cqi version has a floating stop pin. If I remember right there is a slight diameter difference between the newer ones and older ones.

Even with the same CQI, I personally was unable to set an M4 blade and the jade G-10 scale with a titanium lock. The tang kept hitting the G-10 handle. I’m no slouch at tinkering I should add as well.

I have successfully swapped blades out on Militaries for a long time now. Easy peasy to do. Just remember to keep CQI with CQI and older style with older style. You can NOT swap between the newer CQI and older style, it won't work.

It's looking like I won't be able to do it then.
The Blurp Military is much like the Pm2 in that it has fat screws and posts all down the back. It's from 2016.
The Fluted TI Military has tiny screws that look like regular clip screws and thinner posts. It's from 2011...
I guess I'll buy it on amazon then return it? I have no other way of finding out.

EDIT: I did buy it on amazon. Now to wait.

I’d personally never go with amazon or EBay for genuine knives.

It's really not a big issue if you just do your due diligence and don't buy an obvious clone. Both sites will let you return items on basically all purchases, too.

I've had good luck with amazon and ebay. Everything I have that's not a sprint or has numbers for first run is from either or. It's easy to dodge people who are selling fakes and yes they return on a dime. There are no points of sale in my area that are reasonable and amazon is a 2 or 1 day option.

Update: The pivot on the TI is destroyed(?) I just did a dry run and thinner D portion is crushed. Pivot is about as fragile as PM2 screw.

Sorry to hear about your issue with trying this blade swap. I just took these pics to prove that while a blade swap between pre- and post-CQI models is difficult (and really shouldn’t be attempted), it certainly is not impossible. This would be a partial-CQI hybrid that has the old style frame (small lanyard hole, T6 body screws) with the blurple S110V model’s CQI’d stepped pivot (Torx heads on both sides). It was not an easy swap and I won’t really go into specifics because I don’t want anyone to try this and mess up their pretty Millies. This knife is of course perfectly functional, only a hair off-center and the lockup is probably around 60-70% - a little later than most of my other Millies but it does have the steel lockbar insert, so I don’t think it’s going any further. Sal himself has held this knife and admired it but we both agreed it’s not something that should be repeated - as other have said, swapping blades is fine as long as you stick to the same CQI generation. :)

I'd appreciate if you go in to details because I'm stuck going throw with it now that the pivot is destroyed and I disassembled the knife so can't send it in for warranty if I give up now.

Update: I sanded and polished the dickens out of the pivot and it fits back in so the knife is repaired. Tom morrow I will still attempt to up in the s110v blade and figure out what is necessary on my own.

Good news everyone. The surgery was a complete success! No sanding, no tapping, not polishing needed! Blade lock up is solid and the knife is centered. The s110v blade was made in 08-17 and the s30v made in 12-15 so maybe the dimensions were close. I just took the pivot from the blurp with the s110v blade and washers, threw it in, nothing to it.

However the blurp does not accept the s30v blade because the pivot is from the TI is .15 or something mm too thick in diameter. Nothing a belt sander and good polish on the wheel can't fix. UPDATE: It fits now.
