But then, good inexpensive knives impress me more than good expensive knives.
 Same for guns, wines, and a lot of other things. If I'm paying premium prices, well, the blasted thing should be top shelf. Unfortunately it isn't always the case. But to find something that is real, working quality and inexspensive is more of a find.
I will certainly take a look at the Westmarks.
Bartleby, thanks for the Westmark and CAMCO information.
Yeah, Cap, I have to admit there are times I kinda like the roomy OMC with the pillowtop seat. Just wish it reclined. It's a 305 V8, seats up to six and I still get 21 MPG, with or without the AC. When my back is stiff I'm doing good to get into it which is why I got rid of my old Celica GT-S. It fit great once you were in it. Getting in and out was the problem.
Well, it isn't a Barlow, but I did pop into the little Tru Value here in our little town and picked up a yellow handle Case Sod Buster Jr. in CV. My first Sodbuster. I'm calling it a late birthday present for myself. I asked the kid to let me see that Sodbuster and he looked at me odd and asked, "What did you call it?" I explained to him it was a Sodbuster pattern and when he looked at me like I was crazy I started pointing out and naming other patterns in the display. After he found the box and it said right on it, "SOD BUSTER," his face looked like he was thinking making I wasn't crazy. He then asked me if I collected knives. Said, I used to a little. LOL, I dropped it into my pocket (the display was the only one they had) while taking the box, and he asked my how many knives was I carrying right now. I told him this one made three. Then showed him my Kershaw Ken Onion Blackout and the SAK just peaking out of my watch pocket. Just about that time a coworker came in and pulled out a knife to open a cling wrapped tray of bakery cookies. I said, "See, they're tools and handy for all kinds of things."
Fortunately, the store is staffed by a little old lady who knows her stuff and been there for a long time (heck she may own it) and a few others who are the same. This Tru Value is mostly filled with hardware instead of trendy yuppie stuff. The lady and I were bemoaning the downfall of Schrade and the selling of the name. She felt it was just wrong. I agreed.
There was just something comforting about buying a classic brand, American made knife in a classic pattern in an classic branded, American hardware store that is still a hardware store. I may have to go light my pipe and savor that feeling.
