so i decided to fix an old spyderco resilience that had developed some vertical blade play, i kept finding post about temporary fixes to this problem and they didnt seem to work for me ... so i think i found a new way to fix vertical play from a completely worn out liner lock.

the problem was that the lock interface was so worn that it reached to complete other side of the liner. my fix was to disassemble the knife and carefully hammer the liner part until it was minutely thinner (didnt seem to make it any weaker) so that the liner would get a bit longer. Using this trick, the lock went from well past 100% and wiggly to about 50% lockup which just pretty much made it usable again!

I thought this would help out a couple frustrated guys like me. enjoy
(p.s. this is my first ever post here)

That is the simplest method I've ever heard of, I'm going to try it. Thank you for an awesome suggestion.

glad u like the idea :) just be careful not to hammer the edges of the liner cuz it can twist it, although that is fixable too

I might try to compress it with a vise before using the hammer, I'm a little clumsy so I wouldn't trust my swing too much :o

Try using a pin punch on the liner instead of striking it with just the hammer, it'll be a fair bit more accurate. I'v heard of manufacturers using a similar method on ti framelocks that had lock rock/lockup issues etc. It was a thread here on BF that had menitoned it a while back...

Another option is a larger stop pin, or putting a thin sleeve as a spacer around the stop pin to take up the slack in the lockup. Just something to think about.

I tried it, and got some improvement but not perfect yet. The liner is long enough now, but it has lock rock

I've done this before on knives I really like and want to keep. It works for a while and you can keep doing it a good bit depending on how thin the liner is.
I actually had forgotten about this too until I read this. Thanks! Now I'm gonna have to go through my collection and check for worn out locks lol. :D
