Fix for a loose frog?

I got a BAS yesterday by Kumar. It is a great Khuk but the frog on the scabbard is a little loose. When I strapped it on my belt and drew, I pulled the whole scabbard up out of the frog with the knife halfway still in it. I like for the knife to fit tight in the scabbard so that is no problem, but how can I tighten up the frog so when I draw the scabbard stays in the frog? Is there a way to shrink the leather of the frog so it will tighten it's grip on the scabbard? I got to say I like the HI superfrog better than this design. Does anyone make "custom" frogs to fit a scabbard?

Rusty has the right idea but you may be able to get it tight enough just by tightening up the laces.

One of the reasons we went to the HI superfrog is that it is infinitely adjustable. In another current threat there is a discussion of frog position. The old style frog is fixed with rivets. You are stuck with the size and therefore it stays in one position on the scabbard. If you like the frog low like Big Bob you'll never get the fixed frog to work but you can readjust the HI superfrog to fit anywhere on the scabbard that you like. If you move down far enough, though, you must do as Rusty suggested, slice, repunch and relace but you can do it.

So, all that BS out of the way, try tightening the lace. If that doesn't do it slice on side, repunch the holes and lace it up the where you want it.

If it is close to fitting properly, the easiest thing might be to just glue an extra piece of leather inside the frog to take up the slack. E-mail me privately with your address if you'd like me to send you a small piece of leather.

Uncle,
Would soaking the frog and lacing it up on the sheath shrink it enough with out damaging the finish on the sheath? I know that Terry works with only wet leather when he works on sheaths. When the leather dries it will shrink quite a bit.

That narrow piece of leather wrapped all the way around the scabbard and nailed in place on some of the scabbards is a great idea as well.
It would work better on the old style frogs though.
Even a piece of string or paracord wrapped around the scabbard where you want it and tied tightly in place will keep the frog from moving up the scabbard.
The new little village BAS with the _Wonderfully Finished Leather_ on the scabbard I just got has one of the narrow loops of leather around the scabbard to keep the frog from moving up to far.

I have cut and punched new holes as suggested here and on one I had to do it a couple of times to get it where I wanted it.

Now if those lazy sarkis would just tool underneath the frog as well.....

I usually trim a little then repunch the holes. When I make a new frog I wet the back and lace it on the sheath. This molds the frog to the sheath for a tight fit.
As loose as this frog is I'd trim and punch.

Personally, if I had a "loose frog", I'd give it Keopectate or PeptoBismol, and put it into a large bowl 'till it got better

Heh, heh, heh!!

Thanks for the info guys, lots of good ideas to try. I am comfortable working with wood but leather is all uncharted territory for me. Dancer, I like your sense of humor! I actually have a strong interest in herps (reptiles and amphibians); although right now I don't have any frogs that aren't attached to scabbards.

Dear "rkenny",

The pictures that your statement "..frogs...attached to scabbards" engenders, both socially and physically, just tickles me to death!!
