fix for Schrade SG7 Outback with blade wobble

Howdy,

I have an old Schrade USA SG7 Outback – with blade wobble. Just picking it up and shaking it gently - it audibly rattles like a castanet. I got it apart, and tightening the Chicago screw (?) has no effect - there is still blade looseness/wobble in there when open and closed. Am wondering if there were originally any bushings or maybe Teflon washers in there between the blade and the thin steel liners?
Can anybody shed some light on how to remedy this situation?
Thank you

Sawgrass7, I have several of these but have never taken one apart to look at the construction. I've handled a dozen or so all told and none had this problem. One did have up and down play when locked open, space between the blade and lock bar. They were too high priced for what they were and did not sell well for that reason among others. A flood of them emerged from the factory liquidation sale and I bought them for as litle as $7 or $8. MSRP was $50 or more.

Thank you much, Codger. Other than the price, what else do you think was not attractive about these?
Maybe someone else will chime in here with a fix for the blade wobble. I do like the knife and would like to make it right.

The TPR handles had a "cheap feel" to them. And they were heavy and large, making them impossible for pocket carry, obtrusive for belt carry, and illegal to carry at all in many jurisdictions due to blade size.

I just pulled out one of my remaining examples, the SG8 variant, and put it on my digital scale. Weight is just less than 7 ounces, over half a pound. The screws holding it together require a special pin spanner wrench it looks like. With a glass I see metal liners, but no Delrin or nylon washers. FYI the SP8 is a drop point version, mine being partially serrated and bearing a Ducks Unlimited coined brass/bronze shield plate. The XT7B which replaced the Outback suffered from the same drawbacks as far as I can tell. My example, again without the nylon sheath, weighs in at 4 ounces and is a liner lock rather than a lockback with steel liners. But it is the same size being a folding version of the XT2B sheath knife.

In the latter few years, Schrade was operating at a great handicap. Rather than consolodate their product lines and concentrate on a few good sellers, the consultants put in charge by the former owner's widow tried a shotgun approach in an effort to capture a broader market. It was apparently not the right time for this tactic. The result was a plethora of new designs which sold poorly and cost a lot of money to tool up and produce, money the company did not have and had to borrow. First rule of holes. When you find yourself over your head in a hole, stop digging.

All the above is just my opinion and may not reflect reality, just an old Codger's imagination.

It is always good to see the knife in-question. Ken.

Showoff! :)

Now show us the SG8?

That SG8 has stoped me Codger, I had not seen one until now.
I went out of my way to collect the late (2000-2004) knives; some have been hard to find - some, I will never find.
The SQ111 is the one Schrade I would like to have in my collection; I now belive it was never made... Ken.

Here is a picture of my SG8 with a note and 897UH for scale, along with the X-Timer mentioned above.

I do not have an XT7B. However, I do have the XT1B, XT2B and XT3B knives NIB.
It's hard to keep up with some of the newer Schrade knives.
I was very lucky to be told by a friend, that he worked for the Australian Importer of Schrade.
One day he came to my home with a box of Schrade knives and tools - that he gave me.
Talking about "BOX" This is one he gave me - NIB Schrade box made for Australia only.. Ken

Send me a box in a box and I'll send you an SG8, an XT-7B, and XT-4 and a picture of the Black Ice! :)

Thanks. The camera was a part of the package of Great Schrade Train Robbery relief supplies sent by forum members. Hopefully I get better at using it. Downloading pics to my computer is easy. Finding them afterward is a grand safari.

Codger, I know of only 3 of these boxes in Australia, and a collector in the U.S. told me he has one used box.
They came to Australia packed in a white cardboard box; I have been trying to get one for Larry303.
My friend gave me one for free; however, it is very hard to buy another one...

Both Dale and I have all the information on the SQ111, flyers and photos of the samples.
I have all of the other SQ knives. This is one knife I can not find... Ken
