I just got a new knife in the mail today from SMKW. It's not an expensive knife, a Steel Warrior Wharncliffe Whittler with 440? stainless but I was disappointed to see the tip is bent on the main blade. I am not the most patient guy in the world, but thought I would send it back for a replacement. When looking over the return form it says 2-4 weeks to process the return so I am looking at 3-5 weeks to get the replacement back. Another consideration is that I see this particular knife out of stock or no longer available at several retailers, so no guarantee they will even have a replacement when they get around to pulling and shipping it.
Other option is to repair it somehow, obviously I could grind/hone it out but I am inexperienced in this process especially with this blade style, it's my first wharnie. The blade is pretty thin already, I am leery of thinning it out even more. I am wondering if there is a way to try to straighten it by bending it back. Seems like a long shot to get it just right tho.
Lastly, I could just live with it as is. It only affects the tip but I am not sure how it will affect sharpening over time.
Re-reading this, it kind of sounds like I am whining to me. I am not really, just looking at options to make the best of it and wondering what some of you more experienced knife users/collectors makers would do or suggest.
Pictures as best as I could manage.
