Help! I just took apart my spyderco PM2 for the first time to clean it. I used te scrubby side of a sponge to remove oxidation from the washers and then I put it back together. Simple, right? Wrong. The problem has something to do with the compression lock. When I push and hold it down, the blade pivots smoothly and freely, but when I don't push down the lock bar, it becomes super stiff. To the point where I can't even middle-finger-flick it open anymore. As I said, the blade pivots like new when the pressure from the lock bar is disengaged. I even tried simulating the pressure of the lock with my hand to see if it was a scratched washer. NOPE. Please help! Thanks!

You'd get more help in the Spyderco forum than here in General. You may want to ask one of the mods to move this for you.

Have you tried lubricating the detent ball?
Another thought, be sure the stop pin screws aren't too tight, as that can affect the action.

To stop that gritty feeling you gotta loosen the pin and lube the balls...

Ba da bum psshh

Sorry for the bad joke :)

I imagine the stop pin is the pivot stop yes, where the Comp-lock wedges between the blade tang ramp and the stop pin. In this case try loosening all the frame screws (leave pivot screw alone) and tighten little by little while testing the action. In my experience the stop pin screw is the last one to be tightened.

Mineral oil works well, so does gun oil, or if you need something a bit hardier you can apply a bit of lubricating grease with a toothpick.

When you say the "pin", are you talking about the pivot stop? Also, what product do you use lubricate the detent ball? Thanks!

Correct, the first set of screws behind the pivot. They should be snug but not overly tight. That's likely not your issue here but something to note.
I use nano-oil for but whatever you use for washers should be fine. Not wd40 though.
Just a tiny drop right on the detent ball should do the trick.
