I have an old Toshiba A-105 S4034 model around 15'' screen. It has just developed 3 lines across screen, the lines split the text or images being displayed. Do you think it is the video card (mounted on MB) or the screen itself. I have another screen to swap out, but did not want to try taking it apart if problem is with the card.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Jim

Don't really want to spend any coins on it, have another on order. But do have some extra parts laying around for the A-105.

I have a feeling it is the display and not the video card. Do you have an external display you can hook up to the laptop to see if you see the same issue (obviously, if you see the same problem on the external display it is the video card. If not it is probably the display)

had lcd prob's like this before (on a toshiba and a gateway)...it's the screen; swap it out.

As others have said It is the screen. To double check that hook up another display and make sure there are no lines on that display. Changing a display is not really that complicated typically a few cables to plug in and some screws.

Just plug in another display that you know works (like your TV). If the three dead lines appear there, its the card, if it doesn't its the display

It's is definitely the screen. Any sort of pixelation is a sign that the LCD is shot. There are many sites out there that offer replacements and many tutorials in video format to assist you in changing it yourself. The cheapest I have seen your models screen go for is $89.
I happen to have a working screen in another laptop, I think I will do the swap, even though that is why I have another screen. Attempted another repair, much more complicated and fried some circuits on MB.:o

Thanks Guys,
Jim

Yep, screen's shot. Another option is to get on fleabay or craig's list and see if someone is selling a comparable model with a blown motherboard. I've done a few this way.
