Hi all,
Ok, I know I'm voiding the warranty here and otherwise doing things that will send me to Hell when I die, but I have a question about opening my Benchmade Griptillian's handle.
The knife started rattling a month ago when moving the closed knife side to side. I finally found what it was: the post that stops the blade in its travel in the open position. It is "pointward" of the locking mechanism and has no screws visible. The steel liners have apparently separated a few 1000ths, allowing the post to slide back and forth on whatever holds it.
I am imagining that the rattling post is a hollow cylinder with a screw inside, and that I can tighten it if I remove the plastic handle halves (scales?).
My question is, what happens if I remove the plastic halves? Will 15 tiny springs and 40 ball bearings shoot half way across the floor with no indication of their initial positions? Will I need some special tool or jig to reassemble it?
Simply put, I'd rather do it myself in 15 minutes than send it off for weeks. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Scott
