Fix tip of Hideaway Knife

I just received a utility hideaway knife. It is overall very nice, but the tip is too dull. I can press the tip against my finger without drawing blood, for example. It looks like the edge of the blade and the top edge of the knife don't intersect cleanly, but instead are slightly rounded.

(This is a replacement knife for the same problem, unfortunately the new knife hasn't fully addressed this issue.)

What is the best way to touch up this HAK? I don't need to adjust the edge, just the tip. I have a Dremel, a Spyderco Sharpmaker, various files, etc. I don't have a stone or a belt sander.

Thanks!
Michael

My UHAK (v2) is built the same way, but I consider the point to be just fine. It doesn't need a needle point to be effective; in fact, a needle point would probably be too weak. However, if you want, you can use the fish hook groove on the sharpmaker stones to take a little off the spine of the blade, bringing it to a sharper point.

You might want to take a look at the hybrid and curvy versions on the Hideaway websight -- they don't necessarily have sharp points.

you can also use your common garden variety file to do this, or a diamond hone to make the upper edge of the blade meet correctly. depending on type of steel it can take you a while with a diamond stone.

Given the design of the UHAK for self defense, I thought a sharp point would be key. Say, for example, you were defending yourself against an attack by somebody wearing a leather jacket, wouldn't a dull point be less likely to penetrate the material?

Just curious, thanks for the tip about using the Sharpmaker.
