hi,
do you have any suggestions about fixed blade about (6" - 8" blade)
I like the shape and handle of government agent, so any similiar knives made of carbon steel?

my first observation come out with this:

- but I dislike false edge and that hollow

-I dislike the handle (there is free space inside the handle) and the high grind

-this would be awesome, but 1) quite expensive 2) hard to get

The Gov Agent is probably the most comfortable fixed blade I have ever held. It was all I would take to work for over a year.
They have recently come out with a newer model, the "Gov Tac." Essentially, it's the same damn knife, but in Aus8.
I'm pretty sure it's on SOG's website now.

knifeclerk - I know about gov-tac, but it's not carbon steel blade :|
well, maybe I will never "need" the toughness of carbon steel, but the feel... :)

cons of SRK: it's coldsteel :), not comfy looking handle (it looks like fallkniven's :s), but thank you very much troll for adding next possible choice

I think you have the right idea with the Camp Tramp. For the money it is about as good as you can ask for. The only other knives in carbon steel that compare IMO are maybe a Trail Master Bowie or Recon Scout from Cold Steel with the Carbon V steel blade. But I'd take the Camp Tramp over both of these to be honest. If for no other reason the handle will just last longer and be more comfortable in heavy use with the Camp Tramp. The Recon Scout handle is very comfortable when new don't get me wrong. The problem is that after some heavy use it starts to really show signs of wear and tear and eventually just gets pretty ragged looking. These are all close basically to the same price point and comparing all things the Camp Tramp comes out the clear winner to me.

I`d say you would have to go with the swamp rat because it is tougher than any knife mentioned in this thread and I will put money on that statement.

For an inexpensive knife, I would go with a kabar USMC in plain edge, but if you really dislike that style then out of those three I would get the camp tramp.

do you know how the tang of coldsteel SRK looks like (is it atleast full tang?)?
e.g. tang thickness and length, is it made of the same steel as blade or is there welded some low grade steel?
EDIT: according to coldsteel it should be full tang
what's your opinions about the shape of the handle?

I find the SRK's handle to be very comfortably shaped. The rubber is grippy, too. The SRK is the first fixed blade knife I bought and it was a good intro to the world of fixed blades. Now, I find that I like longer blade lengths (8-9 inches for field use), but the SRK is a reasonably priced, solid knife. You can get them at Cheaper Than Dirt for around $45 - http://www.cheaperthandirt.com. Go to the "Knives" section then the "Coldsteel" section.

Check out Bark River Knives. A2 steel, convex grinds, designs that make sense.

I have one and am going to get some more.
