Let me start with t he fact that this probably should be moved into knife laws. That said, does anyone know which states distinguish between folding knives and a fixed blade? I live in Texas, and the lega limit is a whopping 5.5 inches. That permits some decent FBs.

I live in ultra-liberal New Jersey, and the legal limit is a whopping anything you like. That permits some decent folders and fixed blades. The only limit is on not selling over 5" to under 18s.

Nah, just checking to see if you are close. I have folders that I carry that are 4 inched and I have pretty much carried fixed blades up to 9 inched and more in the car and never had any problems. I have a trunk full of BOB equipment should the need ever arise that I am questioned, it is for camping. I have had more than my share of tickets due to my lead foot and no cop has even raised an eyebrow. My friends brother is a cop in Mesquite and I get a good feel for the pulse of the cops in the area. I have has instances where I was stopped and asked if I had any weapons and offered him to look at my camping blade, all was cool.
