Fixed blade EDC=Everyday Countertop

A few years ago I decided I wanted to EDC a fixed blade. I got an Izula II and a nifty pocket carry Kydex with a belt loop lanyard.

So I carried it a few times and then deemed it too much of a hassle for my usual situations so it landed on the countertop.

From the countertop, it got used constantly although I didn't even realize how much. I just grabbed it, flicked the Kydex off with my thumb and used it for literally everything. I had to sell it to realize what I was missing.

So, I replaced it with this JG-3. Got it off the exchange with cool patina done. Tip was slightly buggered but I got that sorted and dyed the handles black. I use the edge of the tray it's sitting on to catch the belt loop and draw one handed. Now I can't seem to live without my version of an EDC fixed blade!

Well that's just a utility blade kitchen knife you say? True that, but I much prefer the little Esee to my other options.

Anybody else with a handy Everyday Countertop?

I remember seeing that knife here before, what a beautiful knife! Brave soul carrying and using that function artwork!

I had been using my Scrap Yard scrapivore for a "desk knife"; similar to a countertop knife. I liked leaving it out to do any cutting I might run into without getting out my pocket knife. I made a nice minimalist kydex with no attachment points, it does have one eyelet but only at the tip but the sheath doesn't have strong enough retention to be hung from that. I sewed the edge with Kevlar thread intead of eyelets.

I met Ben at blade and we talked for a long while, I told him I intended on using the knife he makes (he didn't have what I wanted at blade) me every day around the farm.

I've since moved to carrying it every day basically everywhere I am legally allowed. True EDC.

So a couple years back, I'm looking for a new mushrooming knife. Something that you can wear around the neck and let it hang freely whilst crawling the underbrush for tasty fungi.

I come across the Cold Steel K4 neck knife over at One Stop Knife Shop and grab a couple. They're like $15. Perfect.

I get to the tavern on the way out to the woods, and my buddy the bartender/cook gets an eyeful of the little knife. He HAS TO HAVE IT! Fine. I give it to him and drink my beer and head out.

The next day, we're watching the Seahawks game in the 12th Man Cave. I have the second knife out slicing limes. Friend of mine hacks a slice off a lime and, yes, HAS TO HAVE IT! Fine. Take it home, I'll get another one.

So now I order another, but in the meantime I get this little Ka Bar neck knife that is the perfect shroomer. So the K4 rides on the counter. I should have just left it there, as it is a marvelous little countertop piece. I think I'll buy the rest of them up for gifts. Anyhoo, here it is...

Ha! Great story

Sold the ESEE and picked this up from the maker's exchange as my new EveryDayCountertop! Daado from Croatia created it. I like that I can flick the sheath off with my index finger.

Did you know this is actually a Cold Steel and not Ka Bar? Just a fyi for anyone searching for it since it took me a few to find one but they seem to be all sold out or maybe discontinued (of course, if I like it).

Yes, this is a Cold Steel piece. The Ka Bar I mentioned is the knife that ended up being my mushroom knife, leaving this Cold Steel piece on the countertop. Perhaps that was confusing in my narrative. But yes, the K4 is from Cold Steel.

Give One Stop Knife Shop a try. they may have some left.

Keep your wife and kids and contact Daado about building you one!

So the story on this one is that it has a twin that I missed buying by about a minute. I PM’d him and he built me a very similar one. Very reasonable price, good communication, and got it in hand quickly considering it was coming from Croatia.

I'm not usually into knives of that design, but that Daado knife is beautiful
I've got one B&T from Daado and another on the way. My wife confiscated the first and it lives in the kitchen now. Both in 52100. His grinds, ergonomics and sheathwork are outstanding and his prices very, very reasonable. Also a very nice guy to deal with. Check him out.--KV

I have an old Schrade-Walden H-15 on which I ground off the finger guard. It's earned a permanent place in the kitchen butcher block. Does many things well.
