Fixed Blade EDC? Izula or RC3?

I've done some research on purchasing a small fixed blade knife for EDC.

I'm really leaning toward getting a RAT.

Overall, my choices are:

SOG Mini Pentagon

BlackHawk Knives Crucible FX

RAT RC3

RAT Izula

What I'm going to use it for....

Self Defense
EDC
Hiking/Survival

Thanks for the help.

by your list of activities I say RC3 just for the Hiking /survival part but EDC in the city the Izula is more easily concealed...

I love my Izula.. I had a Strider SMF CC for every day carry, but was too large for my every day needs, so it stayed in my bag. Today, my SNG CC came in and comparing the actual cutting edge on it to my Izula, the SNG is less than a quarter inch longer, the same spine width and very similar blade width.

My point is, the little Izula has a very good size blade, especially for daily use. The RC-3 is great too, but I can't see carrying it daily due to the handle being larger.

Of your choices for everyday carry, my choice would definitely be the Izula. The RC-3 is great to have, but the Izula fits the EDC niche a little better. Also for an EDC, I really like the Strider SA, but that's not on your list!

The handle on the Izula is small, but when wrapped properly, it fits the hand nicely, stays put and is easy to manipulate.

This is before I bought the SNG, but you can see how the blade compares to some other knives..

I've got a number of EDC's to choose from but I always keep coming back to the Izula. It will easily fit in my front or back pocket and is so convenient to use. That being said, I am about to get an RC-3MIL to carry in my EDC pack as well :)

I really want an izula, mainly for outdoor use and rural edc. The shape of the knife reminds me of a caveman flint-knapped (stone) knife. Small but precise and efficient.

I wish it had a sheath that was the same as the rc3 or rc4 -even with a molle back; that would be bad ass.

The Izula is just way too easy to EDC. I just got mine today and carried it for the day in my front jeans pocket and hardly noticed it was there. Superb.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of my Izula as an EDC. My RC3 is always close by in my ruck, but the Izula is always on my person. It's discrete enough you can carry it in a suit/tie environment which, as much as I hate to, I must do from time to time.

Another vote for the Izula. Since I got mine, it has been my edc on a daily basis. It is a great knife overall.

Same here. It is so small and light weight, I sometimes forget I have it on me, yet it is a serious knife.

Hell, I'll probably end up getting both. But, I think right now, I should get the Izula, b/c I need it everyday, whereas I don't go hiking or outdoors everyday.

I think you are on the right track... The Izula would be the best choice IMHO.

I think a person should carry the largest knife he or she can conceal for EDC/self defense. I believe a large folder serves this purpose best.

Conditions and possible uses would decide what knife I use for hiking/survival.

It's hard to choose one knife, but the RC3 would be hard to beat for the money. The Izula is a neat little blade also. Great secondary blade but is too small for self defense and not large enough for a stand alone survival knife IMO.

I believe the answer is buy two knives.

Hell, get three! :D
