I'm trying to get some ideas for my friends graduation from high school. He's my best friend (friends since birth).

Looking at a budget of under $100. Esee izula and maybe a kabar are in mind.... Fixed blades.

I was also going to say BK14. I got one from my Sister for her wedding.

Other option that is really nice would be Ontario RD4 or 6 depending how big you want to go.

The new Becker BK-24 in D2 really has my attention, given it's stonewashed finish I feel like it should wear quite nicely. Also D2 is a grand steel for general use. That being said, I'm really impressed by the resale value of all things Busse/Busse-kin, as well as the materials provided, IMHO the 52100 you get with a Swamp Rat Swamp Warden it a real treat, the stuff will get downright scary sharp, hold a decent edge, and is reasonably tough, it however isn't too resistant to corrosion, and lacks a sheath.

If you want a fixed blade look for Muela if you want a reasonably priced knife that will get the job done.

I just bought an Izula ii and it's a great little blade. He can also personalize it to his liking by, etching, stripping, adding patinas, changing the scales, yadda yadda. The BK16 is also a nice blade that customizes fairly easily.
