I've ordered a Maxpeditiion Fatboy, and I was looking for some suggestions for a small fixed blade that I could keep in it for general utility for around $100 or less. If any of you have a Fatboy and know of a knife that would fit in it well and still leave room for other gear please respond, or if you just have a suggestion. I was thinking of the Spyderco Ronin or a BM Snody Activator. I am not familiar with the interior organization of the Fatboy, so maybe there is a knife that would carry well in the sheath in one of the compartments. Thanks in advance.

Scott,
Lots of small to mediumsized fixed blades will fit in the FatBoy, so there are lots to choose from.
The two you have already mentioned, would be on my list too, as would the the BM 220 Snody Resistor and BM 180 Outbounder, SwampRat Rat Tail, Bandicoot, Howling Rat and if you wanna throw in another $ 30,-, the Safari Skinner when it becomes available.
Not sure of the price of Spyderco's Moran models, but they would fit in there too and they are really light too!
With all those choises, it's more a question of what you intend to use the knife for and what your preferences are in terms of design, steel, coated/non coated, grip materieal, etc!
If it is going to get used hard (I mean "abusive hard" here!) SwampRat is a good choice, where all the others would do well for general use.

I usually keep a Busse Jungle Defender or Buffalo Soldier in my own FatBoy. I keep them in the large zippered pocket "behind" the pack next to the body.

for something nice and small i'd throw in a Bark River Mini-Canadian or the Benchmade Activator...

i don't have any opinions on something as large as a Swamp Rat, 'cause personally i wouldn't want a big blade (over 6" overall) in the Fat Boy... and the smallest Swamp Rat i've heard of is like 8" overall...

I use the rearmost zippered compartment to carry a 4-4.5" fixed blade (usually a Benchmade Nimravus), with the zipper mostly zipped around the end of the handle, or left open enough that you can draw the knife, while the sheath hangs on the inside. Very convenient.
Also put a couple of items that don't see regular use like a Nite-Ize headband that fits a variety of flashlights, and a titanium spork in there, since they're flat, and don't interfere with the stuff I use the main compartment for.

Thanks for all of the replies. I won an auction on ebay last night for a BM Snody 210 Activator, so I will be using that in my Fatboy. I really like hearing what gear and blades you guys like to carry in yours though.

let us know where you put the resistor in your fatboy and how it works.

I have fatboy and I really like the look of the resistor.

How'd it work for you?
