What is a good fixed blade carry around for a pants pocket.

Gotta be small;
Gotta have a properly shaped sheath;

Perhaps, with a pocket clip too..

Any other characteristics I should be looking for, please point out!

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

JB :)

I carry a CRKT Neck Peck in my pocket. It comes with a pocket clip you can attach to the sheath, its very inexpensive and cuts ok.

The main problem with it is that it rattles around in the sheath a bit because the sheath is plastic(zytel). I tried to wedge a bit of paper towel in the bottom so that it would fit tighter, but I ended up wedging too much down there and now I can't get it out and the knife won't go in:)

here are some pics from my webpage if you want to see some hi-res shots.

Since I was planning to wear it as a pocket knife I took the neck cord it came with and used to to wrap the handle to make it a bit easier to hold onto.

Small, short, and strong...

5.5 inches overall... any longer and you'll have problems keeping it in your pants.:)

$25 USD MSRP,
$17.99 USD at One Stop Knife Shop

At that price, they're damn near disposable.

you guys are scaring me
knives in your pants??
i hope the sheaths are secure :D

Check out some of Bob Dozier's small fixed blades. His sheaths are usually set up for horizontal belt carry, but you could get somebody like Lifter to make you a pocket sheath.

I am not sure if you have a price limit, but you might want to look into the Urban Bowies being made by many of the makers from about $300.00 and up. Some of the makers that I know are making this style of knife are: Jerry Fisk, John Fitch, Roger Massey, Terry Primos, Steve Filicietti, Ron Newton, Harvey Dean and Mike Williams. I am sure there are dozens more. These knives are often available with an optional Kenny Rowe sheath that has a clip for possible pocket carry.

JACKBOOTS,

I know there are a number of answers to your need for a straight knife with pocket clipped sheath but I have had the pleasure of having a table across from Don Cowles at the BLADE Show in Atlanta.
He specializes in straight pocket knives, and while I can make my own knives, I came very, very close to buying one from Don at the last BLADE Show.
His knives are abolutely gorgeous. The workmanhip is second to none.

Check him out at http://www.cowlesknives.com/

Don is also a true gentleman to deal with as well.
You won't be sorry!

Stay Safe,

Why dont you take a Blackjack Small. Looks really nice and they produce a special leather sheath which fits exactly into a pocket, or can be carried normal on the belt. Here's the link

Perhaps us knife knuts need extra measures or reminders to keep it in our pants? :D

You can do with that what you like...

Dozier's small fixed blades, with IWB sheath and horizontal cross draw sheath both work well for pocket carry if the knife is small. Up to and including his arkansas toothpick. I just slip them into my jeans pocket.
To withdraw the knife, I push off against the belt clip of the horizontal sheaths and against the thumb sized lips of the IWB sheath and pull on the knife. Works great. I do not find the clips on the back of the sheath create any problems. I also use the same sheaths for IWB carry by putting a para cord loop through the sheath eyelet and my belt, then just pushing off again with the my thumb against the sheath in my waist band. Works great for me. By varying the length of para cord I can sit them real low and almost horizontal against my belt too. Very low profile IWB. No printing in pockets either. I do wear jeans most of the time though. Not thin dress pants. I like his sheaths because the IWB and Horizontal are all designed to make use of a thumb push off, and the motion still works in your pocket. You do have to take the sheath out of your pocket to get the knife back in. I would not want to stick a fixed blade in there blindly. But I am more worried about getting it out one handed than back in. These sheaths work much better than ones that rely on just a straight pull against tensioned kydex. As the pocket has no way of holding a sheath like your belt against the tug. As for pocket clips. Naw.....I dont like it. Too high profile. I also cant imagine how you do it without a lot of the knife handle sticking out of your pocket. I dont even use pocket clips on folders. They catch on things, and broadcast to the world I have a folder. A clean empty pocket works for me.

How about AG Russels Bird and Trout? Fits in your pocket, and comes in D-2 and VG-10 as well as AUS-8. It also has a neat spring loaded lock that allows the sheath to release from the handle when pulled up and forward against the front of the pocket. Takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it, you can pull it out with one hand like it wasn't even in a sheath at all.

But then again, Why carry a fixed blade in your pocket when there plenty of well made lockblade that are just a strong?

I make alot of knives for pocketcarry!....this one fits the bill with titaniumclip on the sheath that allows for deep pocket carry!

Mutts suggestion is good. The CRKT F4 is a good choice.

I realized that the Fallkniven WM-1 neck knife in Kydex neck sheath fits perfectly in the Levi's #501 jeans! Besides I can use it ('open') rather fast with a one hand - simply pushing a sheath with thumb. In this way I have a sturdy, strong, little knife in my pocket - no fear on lock failure. And in addition, it is VG-10 steel.

Franco

Went out and bought the CRKT f4 for C$ 39.99 at House of Knives. It is a nice knife, but what sold me was the flexibility of usage in the Sheath!

Zytel, which is similiar to Kydex, so it is safe from puncture and the locking mechanism is great.

All things factored in, I consider this knife to be the best option for me !

All Pocket knife makers should study this sheath, it really is something special!

JB :)

Are you aware the WM stands for WoMen, as it was designed as a ladies knife :)

Once the cold weather sets in, I carry my Dozier K9 in my coat pocket. As the fellow above said, you can pop the sheath off by pushing down on the clip and pulling up on the knife. Shoots right off :) In the summer it disappears on my belt, to the point where I have to check to make sure it is there.

But then again, Why carry a fixed blade in your pocket when there plenty of well made lockblade that are just as strong?

Folding knives fold.
Locks foul with pocket debris and lint and aren't always as reliable as we want to think.
Locks on folders are like safeties on firearms.
They help prevent accidents, but shouldn't be a replacement for proper handling.
If you are stressing the lock, you probably need a FB or, most likely a screwdriver/wrecking bar/can opener/etc
Not picking on you, just don't want you to buy into the hype that is out there.
The right tool for the job, eh? :)
Try a search in the archives using "destructive testing"

Why would Fallkniven even mention being designed for ladies, seems like it would turn guys off from buying what is actually one of the coolest neckers out there! Im seriously thinking that is my new favorite looking neck knife, may have to get one, boobs or no boobs.:D
