Anyone know of a good fixed blade knife for front pocket carry. I was thinking the knife case may the most important factor in this type of carry.

You should consider the AG Russell Hunters Scalpel. I haven't work-tested the new version yet, but I carry one of the older Hunters Scalpels in front pocket daily. The new model is a tad longer, but I suspect it will fit comfortably also.

Absolutely. And the Hunters Scalpel comes with a hard locking sheath.

The Woodswalker is a nice knife too, but the pocket sheath is designed for a rear pants pocket.

Bark River has some nice little knives.

And don't forget the cool sheath!
Which Bark River knives are those, and where can I read more about that sheath?

Is a three inch blade about as long as you can carry in the pocket without problems?

Something on the order of 6" total length, no longer than 7" ususually works. You can look at different neck knives. Bark river has a good line of mini's and micro's great for pocket carry. Consider Scott Gossman's PSK (6" overall). He just set up a new order page for one with mircata scales:

Bob - how does that sheath work in the front pocket? Do you draw it and then unsheath it with 2 hands? thx.

Right now I am carrying a Scrapyard Yard Guard (7.5" recurve blade) in a cordura tactical-style sheath. It is hanging off my belt, right down into my RF pocket, and is covered by a t-shirt. Depending on how you do it, you can carry quite a large blade this way. I've carried even larger knives with Randall-style pouches this way as well.

with this particular pair of jeans the pockets are a little shallower than most of my other pants, so it doesn't sit quite all the way down. But it still works fine. This is actually a fairly comfortable, easy way to carry a larger blade.

I use this for pocket carry....

The loop goes on my belt and the knife hangs, in it's sheath, down into my front pocket. The blade is about 3" and the handle about 4".

The sheath can be attached to pants, in which case I think it would be rather simple to use the thumb release and draw the knife one-handed.

I carry mine loose in the pocket, like a traditional pocketknife, with the lanyard tied around a belt loop to keep from losing the knife.

Yowza. Can you sit down with 7.5" of blade inside your pocket?

If I were going to carry a fixed blade in my pocket it would probably be my Swamp Warden, they're pretty light and compact.

I carry my Busse Gamewarden, Active Duty and Cultellus in my pocket regularly (not all at the same time, of course). They all carry just fine this way, I prefer pocket carry instead of belt carry, because I find it more comfortable. In-pocket carry is also better if you don't want to attract attention with a "scary" belt knife.

Most any fixed blade 4" or smaller can be pocket carried without trouble.

I've got a J Neilson BUK that's pretty much the perfect size for front pocket carry. Overall length is around 6" with a blade a bit under 3".

Yes. It's not even uncomfortable.
