Fixed blade for urban EDC?

I've always been a folders kind of guy, but I'd like to start branching out into fixed blades for EDC. I'm looking for something in the 2-3 inch blade range, and under $150.

I've had my eye on the RAT Cutlery RC-3 for a while, and it definitely looks like a viable candidate. Is there anything else I should take a look at before I pull the trigger on the RAT?

I'm looking at the RAT-3 myself. I'd be interested in a Becker when they get them off the ground. The Chris Reeve knives may be a bit too big for EDC in town. I dunno. I need to do more research as well.

I've been carrying the BJ Trail Guide of the weekends but the RAT is appealing.

I've been carrying fixed blades for years and gone thru a number of permutations as to what works for me. Since I wear a tie quite a bit I've gravetated to pocket sheaths which are comfortable, convenient and stealthy. If you can wear yours in a regular sheath it's a lot less trial and error, just pick one you like to look at.

More often than not, there is a Blind Horse Patch or one of their Frontier First Patch knives in my back pocket. Sometimes it's a Bark River Mini Skinner or a Mikro II. Kinda hard to use a belt sheath when you wear braces!

For urban EDC? The RAT is a little much. Its not like you are going to be doing much batonning.

I recommend the AG Russell Woodswalker.

I recently got a Boker Edit. Sheath retention isn't great but good enough if your going to belt carry. I love the knife itself though.

Bark River Mini-Canadian or Mikro-Canadian (both a little smaller than what you mention) would work well, as would a few others in their line.

Rat 3 is ideal...the Spyderco Mule team releases are decent for an EDC role in the city, i got a used one off ebay for like 40 bucks.

RAT 3 is a good knife but I think it's a bit large for this kind of situation.

Consider Bark River Mini Northstar or even the PSK, maybe the Bark River Escort Boot knife?

I'm waiting for a Buck Gen5 as this has a 3" blade and a horizontal carry sheath, THAT'S got to be useful in an urban situation.

I have a 52100 Spyderco mule on the way. I am looking forward to trying it out. I carried a RAT RC-3 daily for a long time and it filled the role well. The Mule appears to be ideal.

Depends on what you feel comfortable carrying. I like the RAT 3 and am very comfortable carrying and knowing I have it with me. I also like the Benchmade 210 Activator, I think it's a very good looking knife and carries well. I also rotate a Gerber profile which is one of my favorites. It has awesome looks, it's strong, not gaudy and tackles all of my tasks very well. I use the sheath it comes with on my belt in rear and put it in my back pocket, or if I wear on the side I use my coin pocket whilst attached to my belt.

Those Anzas have a nice look to them Electrik

The RAT-3 is nice, but it can be a little big for urban EDC. There are some smaller knives that would probably work well. The AG Russell Woodswalker is nice, but it is quite thin. I find the handle very comfortable and the sheath is great as well.

There are several Bark River offers you might find useful, I carry a Mikro Canadian quite often, but there are other models which are a bit bigger but still quite pocket friendly.

My all around favourite is the Fallkniven WM-1. The size is just perfect, blade steel is great and the handle is comfortable.
