fixed blade horizontal

I am starting to really prefer a horizontal carry for small to medium fixed blades. It feels better to me, allows squatting and bending without binding, etc. The problem is that there are so few sheath options out there for this. So I wanted to toss this topic out for some discussion.

I recently received a new Randall style sheath for a Swamp Rat 4" HC from Chuddy Bear, with the 'X' back that allows either carry option, and the set up is really sweet. I forgot I had it on. Chuddy Bear sheaths are very well made, and Chuck is a super nice guy to deal with.

I carry my RC4 horizontzl as my EDC at this time. I made a horizontal sheath for my H.I. R-10 however the type of leather I had to use doesnt provide good enough retention.

How does one get ahold of chuddy bear to have them make a sheath?

My buddy is obsessed with horizontal carry. He wont admit it but I’m thinking it has something to do with Sam Fisher.

I like horizontal carry myself. I really like the way a good kydex sheath secures a knife. If you get one with a tek-lok usually it can be changed to allow vertical carry also. Try vertical carry on your hip at 4 to 5 o'clock. You'll hardly know your knife is there.

My only complaint about kydex is it's kinda ugly. I'm looking at a few places that make leather covered kydex. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one for a Krein I just got. I'm just not ready to ship my new knife off for a week yet.

Normark's Concealex sheaths are very versatile -- you can carry vertical, slanted, or horizontal by changing the position of the belt clip. Also very secure. My Dozier K1 came with a semi-horizontal sheath that didn't allow any variation (still a nice design). Normark built one for me that holds the knife more securely and also allows the position to be changed.

A lot of Aussie stockman horizontal carry their folders - much more comfy when bouncing on a horse or bike and actually more secure than vertical carry. We even have leather pouches that are integrated into the belt.
