I'm looking for a fixed blade drop point style blade around 4in. long made from M390 used mainly for hunting, does anybody have suggestions, I'm thinking something custom, who makes a knife like this?

Survive! used to make their GSO-4.1 with M390 blades. Now they use CPM-20CV which is the USA version of M390. As far as I can tell, they are identical.

If you are fixated on M390, keep an eye on the exchange. They show up now and then

I think your timing is impeccable. There is a m390 fixed blade up in the knife makers area of the exchange right now. Go look.

Bradford guardian 3 or 4, awesome entry level fixed blade midtechs. Can't beat the price for that kind of quality construction and M390, IMO.

The Survive GSO 4.1 was made in 390 and now is CPM 20CV and the steel is amazing. They have a subforum here too. Youmcan only buy direct from them or on the secondary market. They make theirnstuff in small batches. They are my FAVORITE makers of fixed blades. I get their 3V for bigger blades and 20CV for smaller.

Here is a 3.5 and a necker in 20CV riding in my homemade clear sheathes. I have used the 3.5 to clean a bunch of ducks that I took this season and the knife was flawless. The 3.5 is a scaled down version of the 4.1.

Mine has a brass bow drill socket in the handle, which I didnt want, but I got this off the exchange.

Here is a link to a thread with nice pics of an orange handled 4.1.

Only the Guardian 3 comes in M390, the Guardian 4 is N690 or S30V...

Thanks for the suggestions I looked at the knife on the exchange can't decide, the gso looks nice, what's the hardness does anybody know?

I wonder if there is that much of a difference between 20cv and cpm3v ...cause I can't imagine having my 6 in any other steel .

Check out the FAQ section of their site. It answers the questions about the steels and the hardness. The primary difference between 20CV and 3V is the 20CV is stainless and 3V is a carbon steel. 3V is very stain resistant and tough as a mofo, while having a significant amount of wear resistance.
