I want to get my first fixed blade and I think I have it narrowed down to 2. Either the benchmade nimravus or a swamp rat howling rat. Would like to carry it occassionally and use it for general chores. I like the sheath for the bm and have found a nice sheath at buy brown for the howling rat. Good and bad of both please and any other suggesstions about similar knife sizes from different companies around the same price. Thanks, I love this place!

As for other brands, you will probably get some recommendations for Bark River models. They are very popular. But for myself they are not acceptable due to the absence of or very small guards. I think the Swamp Rat and Benchmade models you like have more secure handles than the Bark River offerings.

I’d buy the Swamp Rat.

The Fallkniven F1 is a nice knife, and is worth checking out.

I don't have the others, but have had a Howling Rat for several years. I just got it back from my wife who had it in the kitchen for the last year or so.

She chose another Swamp Rat blade (D2 Bog Dog) over the HR and Busse Natural Outlaw.

She is the Cliff Stamp of the kitchen. Her idea of breaking down a chicken is whatever knife is handy and a rubber mallet. I kid you not.

The Howler was in there the longest and other than missing coating, is none the worse for wear. She just likes the BD more for peeling stuff, plus the fact she took off the tip of her finger with the Outlaw. LOL I told her it was sharp!

Get the Howling Rat, ain't no way you'll be disapointed.
