I was hanging out with a friend of mine whom happens to be in the national guard. I showed him the knife I had on me, a Benchmade 551, he said it was a nice knife then mentioned that he was looking to get a new fixed blade knife. He said he needed something for utility purposes, cutting, prying, something he could open a tin can if he has to. Doesn't want a large blade or one with a double edge. I recomended a Cold Steel SRK or maybe a Chris Reeves Shadow. He's more of a firearms kind of guy, just bought an AR-15 but thinks spending $200-$300 on a knife is rediculous. What other knives would you all recomend?

Thanks

Rick

A Becker of some sort maybe? I think even the smaller ones are still pretty big, but it would be worth looking in to.

Cold Steel SRK is an excellent hard use knife and is small, light easy to carry package. Cheap too.

Another vote for Swamp Rat. Their knives are built like tanks and you just can't beat their "lifetime warranty - No questions asked" guarantee.

Any impact series ka bar.tough little knives.I have 2 in my edc rotation.
Ka-Bar impact spear point(blade 4'')
Ka-Bar impact warthog(blade 3 5/8")
only 3 pieces.blade/tang and scales.I've completly destroyed a pallet with my warthog.Pryed it apart and split it for firewood.
1095 makes for easy sharpening too.
