Really like the RC-4, but wanted to know if there is anything out there which is comparable when it comes to quality, but cheaper. Was considering the USMC K-Bar but wanted a knife with a shorter and stouter blade. Something that is not above $70. Thnks in advance.

no. just keep your eyes on the exchange, be a little patient, and you can pick one up for close to your budget.

Nothing I can think of under $70. You're better off with the RAT.

one worth notice is the small ( 3 1/8, fixed) K-bar Warthog, roughly 70$ in 1095 and 100$ in D2. I own a pair of RAT-3's in D-2 and love the steel for extended use. I've paid a premium for D2 several times and havn't yet been disappointed. Carbon steel is easy to sharpen and D2 isn't, but it holds an edge till YOU get tired of it..

If you wind up with a RAT or not, using a premium steel hasn't much downside. If it bends the budget, weep a little, it helps.

How about a Becker BK2 Campanion?

It's an excellent knife, made in the USA of steel similar to the RC-4.
And it's in your price range.

I've got an RC-3 and love it. Taken it camping several times and found it extremely useful. Not to imply that it is better than the 4 by any means, but if money is that important, its a great alternative.
