I am looking to get another camping/wilderness knife. I really like the SRK, but I have had a carbon V recon tanto break on me while camping some time back.

I had a Scrapper 6 that I loved, but it was just too heavy and wide for most of my camping needs. I have thought about getting the "mut" I think that was the smaller knife next to the S6, but they are getting hard to find.

I have a Camilus made Becker BK6 and BK9 for chopping, but I need sopmething for finer work. I have a Barkie upland special,but when my hands are sweaty I feel unsafe about using that knife. I like rubber/ruber like handles. Any suggestions?

i started a thread on this yesterday. i wanted something under 80 dollars. with a 7-9 inch blade. (recon has about a 7.5).
here is what everyone said.

becker knife & tool=

bk7
bk9

bk7 was my choice of these 2. bother are badass knives. a little heavy.


kabar cutlery=

large heavy bowie 1277 (best value at $48)
marine fughting knife (best sheath hards down)


im leaning towards the 1277 as my new addision. 9 inch blade and a good sheath.

try some fallkniven

they are similar shape to the SRK, but are constructed to much higher standards

(i heard somewhere that CS ripped off the SRK design from fallkniven)
 
Fallkniven and Benchmade both make a version. Benchmade CSKII made in USA.
 
I'm not sure what you budget is but I think I've got the answer :D

I was looking for the same thing you were & talked to Mark Wohlwend here on BF in the makers section & this is what he came up with :thumbup:
It is made from 3/16" thick 1095 steel. Mark makes a tough knife & is a good guy to deal with !
 
The Bark River Smoke Jumper is very much like the SRK. But if you want something with a flat grind for better cutting, try an ESEE-6.

sorry to get off topic, here, but how did you break a Carbon V Recon Tanto. i ask because, out of all my knives, that's the one i trust to handle the most abuse.

oh, one more thing - that BM CSK II, is that U.S. made? or is it part of their discontinued Red Box series made abroad?

Thank you very much for posting pictures. I like this knife a lot and looks to be a strudy knife. I may need to talk to him to get some prices. I really like the sheath, did he do it as well?

Thanks guys for all the recomendations. It looks like the Benchmade CSKII is something I am looking for. How is the sheath? Anyone ever used one?

As for the recon tanto, I broke it while batoning through the hard wood that you see my BK6 spliting.

if you want something a lot like the srk, doesn't benchmade make something like that...i think its like csk...i mean they seem very similar...
