Looking for a good full tang fixed blade, something with 3 to 4 inch blade and 4 to 5 inch handle so, say 7 to 9 inches. Something with a good blade shape for overall utility from skinning a deer to food prep and just about everything in between. Want something that is high quality, good steel and well made in terms of fit and finish. Basically a solid well made knife with high quality materials and workmanship. Can be production, semi-custom or custom. Have been thinking Busse but not sure. I need recommendations of somethign that is currently avaiable so I can buy within the week.

Need to start buying for the society break down event which is without question in our near term futre.

Thanks in advance

Rat Cutlery RC4 should do you just fine.

Microtech Currahee is very nice.

As already suggested, the RC4 is a great choice, but I think I love my BRKT Bravo-1 even more.

Edited to Add: B1 if you don't mind 4.25" blade, otherwise, I vote RC4 as well :)

I'm now #5 to say RAT Cutlery RC-4. If there's a better inexpensive all around functional but great hard use knife, I've yet to see it.

If your are planning on using it as a skinner and food prep knife... Busse may be overkill. Although... the Busse BAD is currently available. It has some of the thinnest INFI stock ever used by Busse, making it a wicked slicer.

If you still want to prep food and baton wood than I'd highly suggest a Swamp Rat HRLM. As tough and well rounded a blade as anything out there, and they are currently going for less than a BAD. Game wardens are nice too, but I usually pair those with a chopper, an HRLM is good all by itself.:D

And last but not least the Skinny Ash, it does everything, in a medium light package. So my vote goes for a Skinny Ash or HRLM. Here's a picture of my Skinny Ash next to a Sarsquatch... the Skinny Ash has been tweaked a bit by Ban Tang.;)

Edit:
I saw that you said currently available... the HRLM I had in mind on the exchange just sold.

I'd go with the Bravo-1.

The RAT is a close 2nd, but you mentioned food prep as one of your criteria.

As such, anything with a coated blade is IMO, slightly less desirable than a similar knife with a bare blade.

I would look seriously at Bark River's offerings, if you are willing to consider somehting non-tactical looking.
