Fixed Blade Vs Sebenza or Mnandi

Hi,
I am new to CRK. I really like the Mnandi.

But I am also wondering if it is better to have a fixed blade Mountaineer I or for emergency purposes.

Since it is a fixed blade knife, I do not intend to carry it every day. It will be more like for leisure e.g. camping, or emergency e.g. earthquake kit, etc.

Should I just go for a Sebenza ?

Do you want a knife to carry every day? if so go with the sebenza! then get the mountaineer later.

I think the Sebenza would be more practical for carry. I have also been looking at the Mnandi and fixed blades as well (I will purchase one or the other in the near future). I decided to go for a Large Sebenza, just because I found it easier to handle. Since you mentioned you wouldn't carry the fixed blade as often, I suggest the Sebenza! :)

the sebbie is a great first plung into CRK!

I'm waiting for my large seb to come back from a re-tune and polish job at the factory...:(

The small one in my pocket consoles me somewhat... :D

Hi,
Thanks to all your helpful advise.

I tried a small sebenza classic and it was "rolling" around my small palm as I was trying to open and close it.

However, I seem to have a better grip opening and closing the large regular sebenza.

Also it seems like the large size has a smoother opening and closing feel.

Is it all in my head and hand or is it true that the large size is easier for small hands due to the leverage of the larger/longer frame lock ?

i have both a large and small Sebbie, and I EDC the small Sebbie. I have small hands, and the small Sebbie is perfect.

Hi,
I put a deposit on a small classic sebenza w/micarta inlay.

Thanks for all your helpful advise, stay tuned = )

Excellent choice! The micarta's probably the best CRK for EDC.

Hi,
Finally got my Small Sebenza Micarta.

I was having a little problem opening and closing it smoothly with my weak thumb as compared to my WHK. I also developed a little blister from practising :o .

But removing the clip improved the closing and opening significantly.

Also, when I tried to screw back the nut without the clip, it tends to go deep and touching the closed blade tip. So I guess the $23 thingy is more than looks should I decide to carry this without a clip.

Learning and growing each day.

BTW, I equate this knife to a pair of nice jeans and my WHK to dress pants.
