fixed blade w/serrated or saw back

Do you REALLY want a saw in the back of a knife? you can get a very nice knife for 200, and get any good quality folding saw for like 20 bucks.

Hey Guys..

Thisisnot

Welcome to the Mighty BF.com

First off,, what is your primary reason for needing a swa back knife ?

There are Very few knives on the market that will saw a log on half with a saw back....

If you looking for a good field blade in the 4"-9" range.. Have a look at the Ready Detachment series (RD) from Ranger Knives

www.rangerknives.com

Dollar for dollar they are hard to beat...

A 9" blade for $120..

That's a deal!

@sherlockbonez: yeah, i'd rather not carry a saw seperately. i at least want to see what's on the market.

@Normark: those Ranger knives look mighty nice. i'll probably end up getting one if i cant find what i'm looking for. oh, and thanks for the welcome!

Most saw backs don't work and sawing with the edge up can be dangerous if you are not real careful.

If you want a knife with a saw that works effiently and safely, take a look at the SOG Revovers.

Yeah, sawbacks may look cool but have little, to no place in the field, I'm with Frank, if you want a saw and a knife get a Sog Revolver.

Under 200.00? Get a modded Howling Rat from the exchange. They pop up from time to time, and should handle anything.

thanks for the responses, guys. i'll probably be getting a Ranger. the Howling Rat and the Revolver are a bit too small so i'll just get a light folding saw too.

Good choice! A folding saw is pretty light that you won't notice it anyways. And if your knife breaks, you'll still end up having a saw instead of losing both.

heard the other day that a saw backed knife is very bad for SD as it can get stuck in your opponent if you have to stab with it

Schmidt-Rubin Model 1914 bayonet. A saw-back that actually works.

i have several fixed blades with saw backs and they all suck at sawing wood, IIRC some like the gerber mark 11 and air force pilots survival knives are designed to cut yourself outta downed aircraft so they werent even designed with cutting wood in mind.

i would get a folding saw vs a saw back knife if ya plan on any real wood sawing, ya could baton mine wayyyy faster thru a thick limb vs sawing lol.
