What is the purpose of serrations on the back of the blade, like Strider offers, and some other "military" or Rambo type knives?

I can't figure out what it would possibly be good for, other than making the blade hang up in something, but there must be a reason.

Yeah, most of them couldn't even be used as saws. Maybe they come in handy somewhere in canoe or cabin building.

Serrations I understand....obvious. Spyderco Civilian.

I'm talking some of these dinosaur spines you see.

If it's a big "saw" on the back, it's a "survival knife" (read useless saw, just to make it look bad and salable to kids). If it's just a small notched back it's likely a fish scaler. Those have been made forever. Had a Imperial hunter with a fish scaler back when I was
a kid in the 50's.
