Hey i was wondering if it is legal for me to carry a fixed blade in public?, i live in British Columbia Canada, if you know please let me know.

I'm. Not sure, but if you look post this in the knife laws sub- forum they may be able to help you.

The wording of the criminal code is annoyingly vague on the subject. It doesn't specifically forbid you from carrying a fixed blade knife in public per-se, but it does forbid you from carrying a weapon in public. Whether your knife would be considered a weapon or not is not specifically mentioned in the criminal code (except in the case of a few illegal weapons like knuckle knives, balisongs, automatics, etc. which are mentioned specifically) and is left to the discretion of your local police. So, is it legal? It depends on what each individual officer decides at the time. From a legal perspective, If the officer decides that you're carrying a knife as a weapon, you are in trouble. If the officer decides that your knife is a tool, you're fine. Confusing, isn't it?

My advice is that carrying a fixed blade in public, especially a city, is just asking for trouble from the police. I would not do it, personally.

Additionally, always have a good reason for carrying a knife. If a police officer notices you carrying a knife and asks you why you're carrying it, for the love of god don't tell him you "need it for self defense" because that tells him that you're carrying your knife for the purpose of stabbing people (ie: to use as a weapon). If you tell him it's for "your job" or "for opening boxes" or something, that tells him that it's a tool and that you probably don't have stabbing on the brain.

So, as a general rule, don't be dumb and you won't have a problem. Carry discreetly, don't carry something that will set off a police officer's spydie-senses (ie: carry an SAK instead of a Dark Ops)

Note that it IS illegal (very specifically, very explicitly illegal) to carry any weapon concealed - carrying a fixed blade concealed on your person would be much more likely to get you into trouble than, say, carrying an SAK at the bottom of your pocket.

This is just my understanding of the law. Hope this helps. For more info, just google the Criminal Code and check out the bit about prohibited weapons.
