Ok, I have gathered as many fixed plain edge blades as I can handled now I need one or two fixed blades with serration. As much as I hate them I find them useful far more then my hate stems. Cutting vines, rope, webbing and more plus shelter building seems to be a little easier for certain tasks with serration. I am looking for a 4" or 5". Let me know what you guys like. I cant believe I am admitting to needing a serrated blade. I currently have fixed blades from Bark River, Fallkniven, ESEE, and Becker.

if i were you i would get an ESEE with serrations. they have the best serrations i've ever seen, and can be sharpened on a regular bench stone.

The only serrated knife I have in that size class is the Buck short nighthawk. You can pick them up pretty cheap nowadays online. It's a decent blade, but will need some sharpening out of the box.

I also have the Ontario Rat 7 in D2 with serrations (6" blade). It's bigger than you're looking for, but after a good sharpening, I having a hard time making it dull.

I saw the Bear Grylls Ultimate and almost caved to marketing. Its 40 Bucks!! And it has a Fire steel with it. What the hell.. I might get one for laughs!!! But I did hear it is junk! Nighthawk it will probably be. I dont want to drop alot on a serrated till I really know I will use it heavily.

Your a fan of the A1 , right??
Try the Esee 6 serrated out.Full size handle. Easy to sharpen and a helluva knife overall. Close to the A1 in size , great batonner and bush knife. It's my " carry-only-one" blade. Sheath is very good also. Many options for carry. AND lifetime warrant too.;)

Thanks I have an RC6 plain edge now, like it but I like my Fallknivens substantially better not to mention they perform much better. I also prefer my Beckers with micarta scales. The handle on my ESEE6 is just boxy compared to the other. It is still one of my top knives I just prefer the others. Serrated I think I am just going to do a cheap entry level 50 bucks one. I had a Gerber LMF, a Sog Seal Pup Elite and got rid of both. Sog Handle was hard and when striking it was like swinging a tuning fork. The LMF actually did pretty damn good, it was just big, bulky and heavy. Grip was nice and it seemed to perform much better then the Sog. The Sog wasnt bad it just need a much better grip, when it was cold or wet your hand slide around on it alot. It could be trouble if you slipped onto the blade. But it was tough! And I liked the design. For my needs the Nighthawk seems to fit (the smaller one with serrations). The bear grylls knife is merely a reworked Prodigy from Gerber for 40 bucks it is ok because you do get the firesteel and some other stuff however I heard it is pretty poorly made! Where as the Buck has very good heat treating and seems to back their stuff well. I considered the RC4 but I also have an RC4 in a plain edge it doesnt make it out as much as the F1 nor does it perform as well. Once again like it but these damn fallknivens in a plain edge convexed are hard to beat!

Ordered the Nighthawk (Smaller one) with serration and a cheap Gerber Big Rock for 20 bucks...So I believe me serrated needs are probably taken care of. As much as I hate a serrated I am finding myself liking how some stuff is just plain easier to do with it.
