For those of you who hunt, which knife(s) will you use this fall?

I used to be strictly a folder man, but have recently invested in some fixed blades for hunting and skinning. I used to hunt only small game with a Kimber 22-250, but recently got their 8400 in 300 SM for larger game.

Arriving today:
Fellkniven TK1

Arriving early next week:
Fellkniven NL3
Canal Street Bowie Hunter

Yes, OK, I'm gloating, but I know that hunters like to get a new knife every season. That's not what we tell our wives, but it's what we do. :)

I hung up the bow..but I'd take a look at the Simonich Kootenai or the Fehrman PeaceKeeper.

As I have said in other posts, I will probably use a Green River sheath knife. Cheap, effective, and I don't worry about getting blood and guts all over it. I used that Mantis Seymour about 2 weeks ago for hogs down in Texas, and posted the results to that in my review. It worked, but I prefer to use a Green River or a boning knife. Sometimes I will also use an old Schrade sharpfinger. For cleaning small game, I am more likely to just use my fingers and kitchen shears than a knife. Rabbits and birds are just easier to clean that way. I have used a Buck folder for dressing critters once or twice, but I hate having to clean a folder afterwards. Getting all the little bits out of cracks and crevices is too much of a pain.

You are absolutely right about the small game. I use fingers for doves.

Yeah, I have some friends who love the bow. The PeaceKeeper is a great knife. A buddy of mine has a Fehrman that's got to be more than 9" long. Excellent camp knife.

After reading all the positive things about RAT Cutlery, I am investing in an RC-4 with orange handle for deer hunting this year. They should be in stock around the web next week.

Last year I used a clip point CS folder, I can't remember the name, it is the one where you turn the collar to lock the blade in place..Twist-Lock?

When I used to small game hunt, I used my EDC, a Gerber EZ-Out.

I love what I see about RAT. I'm waiting for the RC-6 to come in.

I use a Scott Gossman hunter in D2 I hunt pretty much anything I can. I use traditional and compound bow, muzzeloader, rifle, shotgun(here in MD you have to in most counties) and pistol. I havent gone the way of the crossbow.

I take different knives with me and use different ones to skin and quarter. Ranging from Busse kin knives, dozier's, buck's etc. I have shown this pic before but not here I think.

Used this custom Active duty on my 9point last year

Also used it on rabbits.

Other deer I took last year I used the gossman hunter or a Miguel Nieto knife my father gave me when I was a youngster.

Oh, sure! Point out the cost-effective alternative!

Seriously, though, I'm an older guy (early forties) and a poser, to boot, so I need to spend $300 or more on a hunting knife that I'll probably ruin in a couple of seasons.

"Uh, Honey, you know I need another knife for the season. So, I got this thing from Canal Street." LOL Works every time. :)

BTW, for cleaning folders, that's what compressed air is for - or WD40.

SOG NW Ranger is a bargain too. BM Rant,Kershaw Echo,Buck Kalinga..there's SO many!!

If I tried that, Mrs. Monkeyboy would use it to skin my a$$ and then pin my hide to the nearest tree. She is not to be triffled with. That is one of the main reasons I don't get any more really expensive knives. Or collectible guns for that matter. Because she is also a better shot than I am. One does not irritate one's spouse lightly...

Wow. You are so lucky. You may not know it, now, but you are. Break her, and the floodgates open.
