fixed blades in CA

I was wondering if anyone here knows about laws dealing with carrying a fixed blade knife in Cali. I ran into a guy at a gun show. He had an issue Ka-Bar knife for the Marines (the new version). He told me that you can carry a FB ANYwhere in CA, under state law, as long as it is in plain sight & you are not brandishing it. A belt sheath counts or open carry, I guess. I figure the guy had to be full of s***, but is he right? If so, what is the limit on blade length for a FB?

I'd like to see if anyone here knows this, before I go spend all day digging in the public library for knife laws.
