Fixed blades what to get?

How big a knife are you after and what sorts of things do you think you will use it for? Any other specific requirements? There are a lot of choices.

Boker just released the Bushcraft XL designed by Tom Krein in the USA. It looks like an amazing knife for $75.

Blade length: 4.375"
Overall length: 9.00"
Blade Steel: 440C (and Boker has the heat treat down for 440C).
Flat Grind.
Orange G-10 handles with Black liners.
Kydex sheath and belt adapter.

I plan to get one as soon as my budget allows!

Any one of these would work for your needs and are great value for their pricing:
ESEE Izula
ESEE 3
ESEE 4
Becker Eskabar
Becker 15
Becker 16
Becker 17

Depends on your budget, but there are thousands of choices. What I listed, is just a grouping of popular production fixed blades.

Agree with everything said.

If you want to keep it simple stay with the ESSE's and Becker/KaBars for now. Shop them and pick one.

Get a Mora for $12, and then see where you want to go from there.

Though honestly, all of the suggestions here have been great so far. I just like to start with something inexpensive and move on from there if I'm not happy with it. And for the record, I'm still using my Mora 4 years later...

Dpx gear has some impressive offerings that might catch your eye. I know that's what starts it all in my head. Oh man I like the looks on that. Anyway have an assault 2 hest and its pretty much bombproof. Have a look see at some of their stuff and something should catch your eye

These are great sugestions as is the BK 11. Also, don't forget the Esee Laser Strike which is Esee's bushcrafty outdoorsy knife. Great Sheath to boot. Also, when I hear outdoors knife I think carbon steel for tough wood processing.

If you're not going to be using it for hard use than i'd recommend the buck 102 or 118. Small to medium sized fixed blades that are relatively inexpensive and reliable. My father still has his 118 from the 80's and it's still going strong.

Totally not my picture but I like pictures.

Oh, you can also get a really nice custom fixed blade for 100-200 if that's the range you want on the knife makers for sale sub forum

There are some great suggestions. My immediate thoughts were the Esee 4 or Laser Strike.
It's also definitely worth checking out the knifemakers for sale area here. There are some excellent member knife makers and a great handmade knife can cost less than you might think.

I have narrowed down to either the bushcraft a esee or bk and am well open to buying a handmade knife!

In that case unless you're in a rush to buy it would be very worthwhile spending some time looking at what people have offered in the past in the for sale: fixed blades subforum. Get an idea what you like. Some makers here also have their own forums here and they are definitely worth checking out. I reckon JK Knives has a new bushcrafty fixed blade model...the Element maybe? Go look :)

Check out the TOPS Brothers of Bushcraft. It's a solid knife, 1095 RC58, and has been a pretty good knife for me. You can find them online for around $110.
