 good morning all

My sickness is getting worse :D I finished on these forums and surfing the net looking for deals on knives at 2am this morning and here I am again :D

Ok, another question:

Fixed blades should I store them in or out of sheath, ie when not in use and sitting in my draw?

Plus, any reccomendations I will be looking in the $70 to $250 range

Thanks
Gav

If its a stainless blade i dont really care if its in our out of the sheath, unless I know its going to be there a while. For all my carbon or tool stell blades that arent coated I keep them out of the sheat(especially leather ones) and keep a light coat of oil on them, thats pretty much it.

For a fixed blade what style are you looking for? Whats the purpose(ie: what are you going to use it for) How long and thick? Edge/Grind preferences and steel preferences? Handmade/Custom or Production? Answer these and we'll get a better Idea of where to stear you because for the price range you mentioned I and many others could put together a HECK of a long list.

Ok thanks for the storage advice.

Well:

I am interested in:

6-8" Length
Mainly I collect knives so the use is not really that important
Production made (I expect hand or Custom will be too pricey)

Really I guess I should of asked who are the best Producers of mid-high price fixed blades, ie: Benchmade/Kershaw make decent forders

Thanks fr the help

Hi again arclight :)

I am also interested in adding to my fixed blade collection. When not using a knife you should keep it in it's sheath wheher its stainless or not it can still bite you if you keep it sharp.:p Of course if you are just displaying it then it would not matter if it is not in it's sheath as long as it is dry etc.

Good production cheap fixed blades don't really go together. A lot of people here like Busse fixed blades but they are more expensive, as are Chris reeve fixed blades. You could try a Kabar as they are reasonably priced. Happy hunting!

Hey Steel :D

Hmmm I see maybe I will hunt a few out, post them up here and see what people think :)

You should really store all your knives (stainless or carbon) out of the leather sheath. The tanning solution will discolor or stain the blades if they are left inside long enough. As to production or custom: look on the "makers" section here at BF, and the "custom knives for sale by individuals". You can find a much better blade than production at about the same cost. Plus, you help support our member makers. Bill.

i just chuck my straight blades into my kitchen knife block. keeps them clean and dry. and handly. my wife is a japanese chef with all sort of blades but most often reaches for my 4inch stainless camp knife.

I have been doing some looking :D

And the following makers I like the look of their knives
